Fire rages, homes at risk
PAPANUI BUSINESS owners
now have a place to go to share
their experiences.
The newly-formed Papanui
Business Community last month
had its first meeting.
The group’s co-ordinator,
Papanui Ray White owner
Vanessa
Golightly said
she set the
group up in the
hopes it would
better connect
businesses in
the area.
Golightly
“I just
thought there
are a lot of neat
people in this community, and
I didn’t even know who half of
them were,” she said.
“We had the first meeting last
month and it was really good,
we had I think about 20 people
show up.”
She said she had set up a
private Facebook group to
make sure members were in
the loop.
“It’s about getting to know
each other and hopefully getting
people supporting using local a
bit more . . . and it’s nice to walk
down the road or go to the coffee
shop and say ‘gidday’ to people.”
The group would be separate
from the more formal Papanui
Village Business Association,
which was formed after the
earthquakes. The group only had
two members left and no longer
held formal meetings.
Ms Golightly said the Papanui
Business Community would forgo
recording meetings, as the Papanui
Village Business Association had
previously done.
“I think after a while people
sort of lost interest. I talked to
the two remaining members before
I set up this group because I
didn’t want to step on any toes,
and they were really supportive,”
she said.
Jones said the board “fully
supported” the Papanui Business
“I think anything that
