‘Game Of Thrones’ first began filming in Croatia
in preparation for the second season and hasn’t
looked back.

Dubrovnik and its surroundings have
featured prominently in the series. Listed
as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the
beautiful walled medieval city has been the
setting for King’s Landing, the capital of the famed
book and series’ Seven Kingdoms. Its fortified
walls have frequently been filmed from the sea as
it appeared memorably in the Battle of Blackwater
Bay and when Jaime Lannister returned with the
body of Myrcella.
Doubling up as the Red Keep, Fort Lovrijenac
or Fort of St. Lawrence lies within the city walls
and is perched high upon a crag of rugged rock
overlooking the sea; Ploce Gate stands in for its
gate.
St. Dominic Street makes a regular appearance
across the show as the location of frequent market
scenes, but it’s the commanding baroque Jesuit
Staircase that’s the scene stealer when in Season 5 it
became the site where Cersei Lannister had to make
her naked ‘Walk Of Atonement’.
