A Postcard from the Peak District
Back in 1951, the Peak District became
the first area to be designated a national
park. It covers a total of 1,438 square
kilometres, encompassing parts of
Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Staffordshire
and Cheshire.
With breathtaking views and fantastic
trails, visitors can enjoy walking,
cycling, horse riding, camping and
wildlife watching. There are four trails
over 34 miles of former railway lines and
they make fantastic recreational routes
through the stunning countryside.
The scenic valley of Dovedale is a favourite
beauty spot. Impressive limestone ravines
greet over a million visitors each year but
perhaps the most memorable part of a day
in Dovedale is the iconic stepping stones
which cross the River Dove. When you’re not
jumping from stone to stone, make sure you
look up into Thorpe Cloud. At 287 metres
high, the limestone hill offers hikers scenic
views over Derbyshire and Staffordshire
for those who make it to the top. For a
gentle, flat, family-friendly stroll stick to
the pathway along the River Dove which
will provide plenty of opportunities for
wildlife spotting.
