Maple musicians spread holiday cheer at Rosewood Care Center

Toes were tapping and
hands were clapping
on Dec. 6, when Maple
School’s jazz band, orchestra,
and the sixthgrade
choir performed
holiday songs at the
Rosewood Care Center in
Northbrook.
The students passed
out their home made
holiday cards to the residents,
which they had created
during their advisory
class periods. This gesture
brought smiles to many of
the resident’s faces.
For more than 20 years,
Maple musicians have
performed at Rosewood
Care Center. This activity
was coordinated by Choir
Director Decima Panitch,
Band Director Mike Vecchio,
and Orchestra Director
Renee Yoo.

New Winkelman addition opens

An eight-room modular
addition to West Northfield
District 31’s Henry
Winkelman Elementary
School opened for use on
Dec. 3.
According to Susan
Harrison, a spokeswoman
for District 31, house
within the addition is:
• Four NSSED preschool
classes
• Core ++ math from
District educator Beth
Rohrer
• Reading instruction
from District educators
Jennifer Perryman and
Robert Lange
• Math intervention
from District educators

LePine, and Amy Rudolf
• A conference room

An open house is scheduled
for 7 p.m. on Thursday,

tour of the expansion, followed
by a reception.

concurred with his fellow
trustee Roszak that this
was not the right place for
this facility.
“I think there’s a need
for a facility like this and
I’d like to see one built in
Northfield, but not in this
location,” Lungmus said.
“I’m excited about the idea
that this building could be
reutilized, but at the end of
the day, I really have trouble
with the structure itself
being used as a memory
residence, so I just don’t
see it working.”

was concerned with the
impact this project would
have on the adjacent residential
neighborhood.

recap 2018 at League of
Women Voters forum
With the end of the year
quickly approaching, the
League of Women Voters
of Winnetka-Northfield-
Kenilworth hosted its annual
State of the Villages
forum Thursday, Dec. 6, at
Kenilworth Union Church.
Winnetka Village Manager
Rob Bahan began the
meeting by providing an
update on the One Winnetka
project.
Last December, the developer
for One Winnetka
requested to revise its
plans for another round of
review by the Village’s advisory
bodies and the Village
Council. The project
was given final approval in
October, but the developer
still has a couple more
steps to take to make it official.
