Police, officials investigating ‘unacceptable’ racial video posted by students
Staff report
An incident in which
three students at Glenbrook
South and Glenbrook
North high schools
allegedly posted a video
on social media that contained
“inappropriate and
unacceptable racial content,”
is under investigation
by local police departments,
according to
a letter sent to parents by
school administrators.
The Glenview and
Northbrook police departments
are currently looking
into the video, which
From Dec. 10
is being passed around by
students, with support and
collaboration from officials
at Glenbrook South
and Glenbrook North, according
to the letter.
The three students in the
video did not attend school
on Monday, Dec. 10, GBS
Principal Lauren Fagel and
GBN Principal John Finan
say in the letter.
“Because we consider
messages of this type to
be threatening and offensive
to members of our
school community, steps
are being taken to increase
security awareness
on the high school campuses,”
the administrators
wrote to parents. “We take
incidents of this nature
very seriously, and will
be diligent in our efforts
to ensure the safety of every
member of our school
community.”
When asked about potential
charges stemming
from the ongoing investigation,
Northbrook Police
Department Deputy Chief
Dan Strickland said “we
don’t know at this time.”
“We have to see where
the investigation leads us,
if there are charges appropriate,”
Strickland said.
“It’s hard to say with juveniles,
but it depends on
what we find out.”
School administrators
encouraged parents and
students to share any information
they have with
the two police departments
or with the dean’s
office at either school.
People can also submit
information anonymously
using online reporting
forms available on the
schools’ websites.
Northbrook Police Department releases
Thanksgiving enforcement numbers
Submitted by the Village
of Northbrook
The Northbrook Police
Department conducted
additional traffic enforcement
Nov. 16–26, reminding
motorists to buckle up
and not drive impaired, day
or night, as part of the nationwide
Over enforcement effort.
The Northbrook Police
Department joined other
state and local law enforcement
agencies across
Illinois to reduce highway
deaths by issuing citations
to unbuckled motorists and
arresting impaired drivers.
During the 10-day mobilization,
Northbrook Police
issued:
• 36 seat belt citations
• 1 child car seat citations
• 1 DUI arrests
• 2 uninsured motorists
• 19 speeding citations
• 5 distracted driving citations
• 9 other citations
The annual campaign
may be over in Northbrook,
but that isn’t an
excuse to stop buckling
up, per the Village. Not
wearing your seat belt is a
primary offense, meaning
law enforcement can stop
you and issue a citation for
that alone. All vehicle occupants,
regardless of seating
position, are required
to wear a seat belt.
“Our officers are out
year-round. If you or your
passengers are caught not
wearing a seat belt, you
will be cited for the violation,”
said detective Chris
Lacina. “If you drive under
the influence of alcohol or
drugs, you will be arrested.”
