THE holiday season is
upon us. For many of
us this means
countless festivities,
banquets, and
celebrations. From the office
holiday party, to outings with
friends, to family gatherings. The
celebrations seem almost endless
combined with the hustle and
bustle of the holiday season. As we
enjoy though, often
our health and
wellness suffers so
much that it
becomes almost
nonexistent.
Our daily wellness routine that
we’ve worked so intensely hard to
adhere to all year, seems to quickly
be thrown out the window once the
holiday decorations begin to go up.
We tend to ignore completely our
closely followed diets, our exercise
routines, and our medication
regimens.
We lose focus and celebrate our
health away promising ourselves
that we can just start over again
in January with our routine
“health focused” new years’
resolutions. The main
problem with this
method though, is that
eventually, the
cumulative effects
of our yo-yo
dieting and
So, while you enjoy this season, be
sure to keep up with that wellness
routine you’ve aced all year.
exercising catches up with us.
This year, perhaps we can employ a
different method and be proactive
with our health and changes that occur
around this time. Don’t allow yourself
to get lost during the bustle of the
holiday season. Here are a couple of
ways you can overcome the holiday
health plummet:
CELEBRATE
WITH YOUR
HEALTH
Plan your meals ahead of the parties.
If you eat before you go out, you’ll be
less likely to want to overindulge.
Consider changing your exercise
regimen. This will likely keep you
interested and less likely to make you
want to skip a workout since it will
be so new. It also gives you a head
start on that new year’s resolution.
Keep a journal. Try documenting your
meals daily including the foods
consumed at the holiday parties. This
will help you to keep track of the
days you might have fallen off track.
Program medication reminders in
your favorite electronic device. It’s
easy to forget or lose track of your
medication times when busy. An
alarm setting placed before you start
that busy upcoming week will help
your routine to stay on track.
