The newly re-vamped Dragonfly Café on
Rolleston Drive has officially become part of the
New World family. After almost 14 years Courtney
and Amber have sold their popular café to their
mum and dad Roy and Lynne Bridgman, owners of
New World Rolleston.
Many New World supermarkets now have café’s
attached. “We couldn’t just include coffee because
there was a café here already. We worked with
Foodstuffs to come up with the concept to
incorporate it into the foyer,” said Roy. It is very
different from what is offered anywhere else, with
the look and feel of the quintessential café, a part of
New World and simultaneously autonomous from it.
Amber and Courtney designed the fit-out, project
managed the builders, upholsterers and chose the
furniture. They wanted the café to be lighter and
brighter, upmarket and modern. “Our aim was to
create a natural timeless ambience,” said Amber.
Comfy seating all the way around the wall means
people can come in, whether in large groups or
small, and find the perfect spot to sit. A table can
be rolled in for additional seating when needed.
Courtney approached New Zealand artist Andrew
Steel to design the wall leading into the café, after
seeing his art featured on popular TV series The
Block. She worked with him to choose icons which
tell the story of the new Dragonfly New World
Café. The distinctive hieroglyphics depict icons
representative of kiwiana, New World and the
coffee industry.
Construction on the re-fit started in August.
Despite the disruption associated with
renovation, the café was only closed for two
weeks. Dragonfly Café will continue to serve
customers the same quality coffee from Coffee
Supreme they have always enjoyed.
Jules, the Café Manager, has worked at the
Dragonfly Café for 9 years. She is the perfect
fit for the business. Originally from the UK she
moved to the area in the year and month that the
café originally opened. “I used to come in with
my children, I loved it so much I asked for a job.
That’s where my romance with coffee started.”
Customers choose from an appetising range of
cabinet food, wraps, scrumptious slices, muffins,
or perfectly toasted paninis.
Always on trend, the café will shortly be offering
a small selection of menu items, including healthy
and delicious Smoothie Bowls. Jules makes a
muesli slice which is vegan-friendly and very
popular. They will also be featuring some of ‘Two
Raw Sisters’ salads in the cabinet.
Rolleston New World celebrated their 18th
birthday on 5th December. They are 100 percent
“Customer Centred.” Roy and Lynne have
always been committed to hands-on community
involvement, and would like to wish all their
customers a safe and happy Christmas and New
Year. Up until Christmas the café will be open
extended hours, until 7pm.
