One-year wait for FreshChoice

PREBBLETON’S FreshChoice is
likely to open late next year or in
early 2020.
It follows the district council’s
decision to grant resource
consent for the development on
the corner of Tosswill Rd and
Central Ave.

New Zealand Ltd
and Prebbleton
Properties Ltd
are behind the
project, which

surgery, pharmacy
and cafe, as well as
96 car parks.
Prebbleton Properties Ltd
director Grant Hatton said it
is working on the project “as
quickly as it can.”
“I can’t give you an opening
date but, realistically, I would like
to think it was later next year but
I believe it will be early 2020,” he
said.
Mr Hatton said the
development is “definitely
happening” and construction will
probably start about April.
A Woolworths New Zealand
Ltd spokesman said it is excited
to gain resource consent and
it’s currently reviewing the
conditions.
“(We’re) working through
some of the timings and detailed
design of the site. We’ll share
these plans with the community
once they’re finalised,” he said.
Deputy Mayor Malcolm
Lyall, who lives in Prebbleton
and is the district council’s
representative on the community
association committee, is
“extremely excited” about the
development and hopes it will
encourage other businesses to setup
in the town too.
The planned FreshChoice
facility is set to cover 1300m 2 ,
with the retail section covering
420m 2 .
The plan is for the supermarket
to be open from 7am-10pm,
seven days a week. The retail and
commercial area would be open
from 8am-5pm daily.
Cr Lyall said there has been
no update about the proposed
Prebbleton Raeward Fresh since
it was granted resource consent
earlier this year.
Cr Lyall also said he believes
there have been expressions of
interest in the Prebbleton Tavern
redevelopment.
In February, resource consent
was granted for a major
redevelopment of the tavern site
on the corner of Tosswill and
Springs Rds.
GETTING CLOSE: The rebuild of St Patrick’s Catholic Church
on Gerald St in Lincoln may be completed by Easter. Parish
Council chairwoman Patricia Smith said it’s hopeful it will
be up and running by April but it depends on the weather.
The existing church had to be demolished following
earthquake damage. Since then, parishioners have been
attending mass at St Stephen’s Anglican Church in Lincoln,
St Mary’s Anglican Church in Springston and Church of the
Resurrection in Rolleston. Mrs Smith said they have three
services because of the rapid growth in the area. Though
the parish well on its way to meeting its target, more money
is needed for the rebuild. If you wish to donate, phone Mrs
