Welcome to the first edition of our new look Special Offers catalogue, I hope you are 

as excited as we all were putting it together. As you know the drinks trade is always 

evolving, new products coming to market as well as old favourites making a comeback 

and being bigger and better than before. 

So, what we would like to do is bring all the latest to our customers giving you the

Delivering up to 3,000 pints at any one time, our Small 

Batch Brewery was designed to allow our team of highly 

skilled and innovative brewers to keep experimenting 

with new flavours and beer styles while further 

developing their skills using a truly ‘hands-on’ brewing 

system. 

Taking inspiration from all corners of the world, our Small 

Batch Brewery produces everything from Traditional 

English Ales to New Zealand Pale Ales, offering a range 

of new and interesting brews to our own estate of pubs 

and many free trade customers. 

With more than 100 different hop varieties from all 

over the world to choose from that each offer different 

flavours and aromas, you can be sure that we’re looking 

forward to experimenting with them – and we know you’ll 

be looking forward to sampling the results! 

The Small Batch Beer Club has limited availability of 

40 members with one cask available for each member. 

Members of the club commit to a season of different 

beers, usually nine different beers spread across a twelve 

week period. All the beers are priced the same and could 

range from a session IPA to a dark porter.

JANUARY 

DOMINIO DE FONTANA TEMPRANILLO 

CABERNET CRIANZA, SPAIN 

£5.95 

January conjures up images of wild walks followed by cosy pub meals next to 

a roaring fire. This is the ultimate winter warmer wine. A rich Rioja-style red 

made from 70% Tempranillo and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon from the highly 

talented winemakers at Bodegas Fontana. The wine is aged in oak barrels 

for 12 months adding a toasty richness and flavours of vanilla and spice. 

It is produced in Uclés, in the central Castille region of Spain, about an hour’s 

drive west from Madrid. 

The team at Fontana work in a truly inter-disciplinary way, integrating every 

decision from vineyard to market and combining a deep understanding of 

the Castillian soils with a global outlook. Their aim is to produce interesting 

wines that represent a modern take on the local winegrowing traditions, 

conveying a true sense of place while always offering outstanding quality 

and value. 

Fontana manages its estates sustainably and has integrated ecosystems, 

taking advantage of the low levels of disease in this dry, continental climate. 

No pesticides are used, organic manure is the only fertilizer applied and 

weed control is done by light, superficial tilling. 

Deep garnet in colour with powerful and complex aromas combining the ripe 

berry notes of the Tempranillo grape with the robust cassis of the Cabernet 

Sauvignon. An elegant and sophisticated wine with a velvety texture, great 

depth and lingering finish. 

Their wines are suitable for vegans so why not give it a try in Veganuary!

VILLA SANDI 

IL FRESCO ROSATO, ITALY 

In the quiet season the hospitality industry has to make the most 

of opportunities to attract customers and the main dates to do 

this in February are Valentine’s Day on the 14th (this year falling 

on a Thursday so it can be eked-out through the week end), and 

half term, 18th to 22nd. So what to drink? Our Villa Sandi pink fizz 

gives reason to celebrate but with a sensible price point means it is 

accessible for anytime drinking. 

Pink Italian fizz will be very topical in 2019 as for the first time they 

are strongly considering use of the term Prosecco Rosé. Currently 

Rosé is not allowed under the regulations of the DOC so they can 

not use the word Prosecco on the label even if the grapes are from 

the correct region. The Villa Sandi would then become Il Fresco 

Prosecco Rosé.

IS Veganuary THE 

NEW DRY JANUARY? 

Looking back to the start of this year it feels like Veganuary was even bigger 

than Dryanuary. Something of a relief for those of us in the drinks trade, 

but also a serious indication of the power of the vegan movement. With 

ever increasing numbers of people converting to veganism, we expect 

Veganuary 2019 to more popular than ever. 

SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR WINE? AND HOW 

SHOULD IT INFLUENCE YOUR WINE OFFERING AS 

A PUB, BAR OR RESTAURANT? 

Firstly we need to really understand what vegan wine is. To know whether 

a wine is vegetarian or vegan, you need to know how a wine is clarified (or 

fined) to remove the solid particles that would otherwise make it cloudy. 

The substances used for this process can be derived from many sources, 

some of which come from fish and animals, some from dairy products and 

some from clay or synthetic substances. Certain producers do not fine 

their wines at all while some choose just to filter. 

Though the traditional fining agent of bull’s blood was banned by the EU 

after the BSE crisis, a number of animal-derived products are still permitted 

for the production of wine sold in Europe. Among the most prevalent are 

isinglass (fish swim bladders), gelatine, casein (milk protein), and albumen 

(egg whites). If a wine is fined with bentonite (a clay) or activated charcoal, 

the wine is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. If a wine is fined with casein 

or albumen it is suitable for vegetarians but not for vegans. 

VEGAN WINE

It wasn’t so long ago that veganism was sceptically seen as a small 

contingent of defiant earth warriors out to save the planet by avoiding 

animal-made products and foods. But what started as a fringe movement 

has today become mainstream and everyone is taking note. 

St Austell Wines stock over 130 vegan wines. 

World Vegan Day started in 1994, and now 25 years later, it is no longer 

an annual nod to a tireless campaign but a normal, daily, subconscious 

movement to help the welfare and health of animals, and well, humans too. 

ACCORDING TO A SURVEY CARRIED OUT 

BY THE VEGAN SOCIETY LAST YEAR; 

• More than half of UK adults (56%) are now adopting vegan

cold outside and we all need 

something to warm our cockles. 

Why not treat yourself to 

warming whiskey? 

There are strict regulations around the 

world for a whisky to be classed as a whisky 

from that particular area, but the one 

consistent rule is fermentation of grains, 

distillation and ageing in wooden barrels. 

Each distillery has its own unique 

characteristics but certain regions will have 

some that are similar. There are six regions 

producing Scotch as well as other countries 

all around the world producing their own 

unique styles. 

So whether you are looking for a smoky 

Islay, a complex Speyside or a modern aged 

Bourbon we have a great range to choose 

from. Here are just a few suggestions from 

around the world. 

Haig Clubman 

Haig Club Clubman is matured exclusively 

in American ex-bourbon casks, allowing 

the sweet, gentle Single Grain Scotch 

Whisky from Cameronbridge to interact 

with the vanilla, butterscotch and sweet 

toffee flavours found in the ex-bourbon 

casks. The result is a wonderfully 

smooth, sweet and enjoyable whisky. 

Jameson 

Triple distilled, twice as smooth, one of a 

kind. Jameson Irish Whiskey is a blended 

Irish Whiskey, we triple distil the best of 

the pot still and fine grain whiskeys to 

give it its signature smoothness and then 

age them in oak casks for a minimum of 4 

years. This gives us a light floral fragrance, 

peppered with spicy wood and sweet notes 

and the taste, the perfect balance of spicy, 

nutty and vanilla notes with hints of sweet 

sherry and exceptional smoothness. 

Woodford Reserve 

The art of making fine bourbon first took 

place on the site of the Woodford Reserve 

Distillery, a National Historic Landmark, in 1812. 

On the nose, heavy with rich dried fruit, hints 

of mint and oranges covered with a dusting of 

cocoa. Faint vanilla and tobacco spice this delivers 

a rich, chewy, rounded and smooth taste, with 

complex citrus, cinnamon and cocoa. Toffee, 

caramel, chocolate and spice notes abound. 

Cotswolds 

This Single Malt Whisky is twice-distilled 

in copper pot stills before being aged in 

premium ex-bourbon and reconditioned red 

wine casks. Notes of honey and butterscotch 

are layered with peach and apricot and a 

hint of marzipan. The palate is of tannin-rich 

malt, oils and dark sugar followed by fresh 

spice and caramelised orange marmalade.

50ml of Jameson Irish Whiskey 

Ginger ale 

Large wedge of lime 

Method | Fill a high ball glass with ice, pour in a shot 

of Jameson. Top up the glass with a good quality bottled 

ginger ale and stir briefly to mix. Take a large wedge of lime, 

give it a squeeze and drop it in the glass. Roughly 1 part Jameson 

to 3 parts ginger ale, all parts refreshing! 

Burns Night 

CELEBRATIONS 

Cotswolds Whisky Sour 

60ml Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky 

25ml fresh lemon juice 

20ml sugar syrup 

2 dashes of Angostura Bitters 

½ egg white 

Method | Dry shake all ingredients. Add ice to

METHOD | Build your first three ingredients in a rocks glass, 

churn with crushed ice and top with more crushed ice. Drizzle the sloe 

gin over ice to finish. Garnish with a blackberry and ginger slice.

1.5 oz. CÎROC Red Berry 

2 oz. Cranberry Juice 

1 squeeze of Lime 

METHOD | Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice. 

Shake well and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with an orange slice.

50ml Tarquin’s Cornish Gin 

150ml Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic
