• By Sophie Cornish
WHEN AMY Gianelly
walked along the road
holding her daughter,
crying and bleeding, she
couldn’t quite believe what
Puss Puss had done.
The Templeton motherof-two
was attacked by her
family’s two-year-old tabby
cat Puss Puss on December
10.
Puss Puss, who recently
had kittens, was spooked
after seeing a rottweiler
outside the house.
She then lunged at Kiara,
Miss Gianelly’s, two-yearold
daughter, biting and
scratching her.
“I knew she was p...d
off when she saw the dog,
she started growling and I
tried to shut the door but
she jumped over my leg .
. . It was like she was possessed;
I have never seen
a cat go like that. She was
protecting her babies.
“Then I pulled her off
Kiara and she jumped at
my face. I pulled her off me
and she kept jumping up
and attacking me, it happened
about five times. I
finally got away and locked
ourselves in the bedroom.”
“Blood was dripping
down my face, my house
looked like a crime scene.”
Miss Gianelly escaped
the house with Kiara and
they began walking to the
Templeton Medical Centre,
as Miss Gianelly doesn’t
drive.
A truck driver who was
going past saw the pair,
who were bleeding, and offered
to give them a ride.
Once at the medical
centre, they were rushed
to Christchurch Hospital,
where Miss Gianelly
received about 30 stitches
from a plastic surgeon.
Kiara’s scratches and bite
marks were superficial and
will heal on their own.
Miss Gianelly said
people she has told about
the attack have been “twominded”
about what to do
with Puss Puss.
“Some people are saying
put her down . . . but then
heaps of people are saying
it is a cat protecting her
babies, how can you fault
a cat for that? I’m in the
middle, but I am trying
to do what’s best for my
family. If I feel she is any
danger or threat, she will
be rehomed.”
Puss Puss’s kittens will
be rehomed soon and she
will be fixed.
