“He’s a hero.”
Those were the words
Illinois State Police Director
Leo P. Schmitz said
Saturday, Jan. 12, when
he addressed reporters
following the tragic
passing of Illinois state
trooper Chris Lambert.
We often throw the
word hero around far
more than it should be
used. But Schmitz’s usage
of that term couldn’t
have been more accurate.
Lambert is a true hero.
Lambert was fatally
struck by a vehicle Jan.
12 while investigating a
traffic crash on I-294 in
Northbrook.
It was later announced
Lambert was on his way
home from the end of his
shift that day. He stopped
his vehicle when he saw a
three-car accident on the
interstate. And he stopped
so he could help others in
danger.
Lambert died protecting
the lives of others.
That is what a hero does
— put the safety of others
before anything else.
It is tremendous police
officers like Lambert who
are responsible for keeping
us and our loved ones
safe. Thank you, trooper
Lambert for your dedicated
service. And thank
you to all the police officers
for the tremendous
work you do in keeping
everyone safe.
My deepest condolences
go out to Lambert’s
family and the Illinois
State Police family.
cold the weather. “You’ve just got to get out
there and do it,” she says. “Otherwise, you
An intriguing number from this week’s edition
to go on one date a week, 52 weeks a
has since inspired other couple to try
the same. Please see Page 3
after a review by the Cook
