IT’S BEEN a tough week.
Completely out of Vittoria’s hands and
not her fault – no, she has been a great
help.
Last week, a family emergency saw me
head to Dunedin for a couple of days.
I’m sorry to be
so vague, it’s not
like my whānau
subscribes to the
Mafioso notion of
omerta or anything,
it’s just a family
matter.
To put it simply,
it’s been, and still
is, an emotionally
trying time for all
of us.
Luckily, Laura
was able to be home with Vittoria while I
was away.
She even took Vittoria to a swimming
lesson for the first time, I’m so proud of
her.
I would have been stuffed without her.
It certainly gave me an appreciation for
how lucky we are to have each other to rely
on. Being a solo parent must be bloody
hard.
While I was away in Dunedin,
Vittoria learned a new trick – the laughs
it has provided have been very much
appreciated.
You know when you see toddlers have
big tantrums? And they fall on the ground,
kicking their legs and screaming?
Imagine that, but in slow motion and
way more chill.
She cries about whatever is bothering her
Time to remember
185 quake victims
IT IS hard to believe that another
anniversary of that fateful day has
arrived – 12.51pm, February 22, 2011 – we
remember where we were, what we were
doing and what followed.
We remember the 185 people who lost
their lives, the serious injuries that were
inflicted on so many, and the loss of
homes, businesses and whole communities.
We will come together as a city at the
Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial
at 12.30pm. The 185 names will be read
and at 12.51pm we will observe a minute’s
silence. Wherever you are, perhaps you too
could pause for a minute and think about
that day and what it means to you.
After that, maybe you could pause for
another minute and think about our future
as a city. I know there is much to be done,
however, as I walked along the terraces the
other night it was balmy, the venues were
full, and people were enjoying the promenade
and the river. I soaked it all in and
it made me smile. It felt like we had finally
turned the corner.
And on that note, this weekend, we have
the Christchurch Town Hall open days – I
will be cutting the ribbon with Sir Miles
Warren and two of Maurice Mahoney’s
great-grandchildren at noon on Saturday.
The open days run from noon-6pm both
days. I remember coming to the original
open day with my family. I would have
been about 12-years-old. I will never forget
that day. I hope you bring your children
and create new memories.
(most likely the fact she can’t do something)
then gently and slowly lies down
and looks at you.
I’m pleased to say she doesn’t cry or
Fire rages, homes at risk
stamp her feet while on the ground. Yet.
Watch this space.
When I got back, we still had a full on
weekend ahead. On Saturday we took Vittoria
out to the noodle markets and then
Sparks in Hagley Park.
Vittoria tried everything we ate, ran
around the grounds in and out of people’s
legs and even managed to borrow someone
else’s chair (they knew us and offered it, so
it was okay).
She had a great time and didn’t even
freak out when the fireworks woke her up.
The only downside to it was that the late
night kind of wrecked her sleep pattern for
a couple of nights.
And ours.
Notice of electricity delivery price changes
Orion New Zealand Limited owns and operates the electricity distribution network in central Canterbury (including Christchurch) between the Waimakariri and Rakaia
rivers, and from the Canterbury coast to Arthur’s Pass. We receive electricity from Transpower’s national grid at seven different locations and we distribute this electricity
to more than 200,000 homes and businesses.
Our service is delivery only (we don’t buy and sell the electricity, we just deliver it), and we charge electricity retailers on a wholesale basis for this delivery service.
Retailers, in turn, include this cost in their retail electricity prices – Orion’s distribution charges and Transpower’s transmission charges together represent about 40% of an
average household electricity bill. Both Orion’s and Transpower’s prices are regulated by the Commerce Commission and the changes set out in this schedule are made in
accordance with the terms of the regulation. For more information on our pricing, or Orion in general, visit www.oriongroup.co.nz or call us on 363 9898. For information
on the retail prices that appear on your electricity account, please contact your electricity retailer.
Requirement 2.4.18 of the Electricity Distribution Information Disclosure Determination 2012 requires Orion to publicly disclose changes to our wholesale prices, together
with the amount that relates to transmission charges, as follows:
Notes
1. This schedule is a summary only. Please refer to Orion's published electricity delivery price and export and generation
credit schedules, available from Orion or www.oriongroup.co.nz, for full details.
2. Peak and volume prices for streetlighting, general connections and irrigation connections are applied to peak loadings and
volumes derived from measurements taken at grid exit points, and it is appropriate to allow normal network losses when
assessing the contribution individual connections make to these charges. All other prices in this schedule are applied
against measurements or ratings taken at the connection.
