Fire rages, homes at risk<br />
Diversity on show at cultural event<br />
THE CITY’S colourful<br />
diversity was celebrated to<br />
mark the annual Culture<br />
Galore event.<br />
The day organised by the<br />
city council, featured food,<br />
arts, crafts, music and dance<br />
performances from more than<br />
30 cultures who call the city<br />
home.<br />
About 6000 people attended<br />
the annual event held at Ray<br />
Blank Park in Ilam recently.<br />
Stage performances ranged<br />
from Japanese drummers to<br />
colourful traditional dances<br />
and songs from Indonesia,<br />
Korea, Mexico, Poland, Ireland,<br />
China, Fiji, Russia, Cambodia,<br />
Bhutan.<br />
There were a wide range of<br />
activities including stone carving,<br />
flax weaving, face painting,<br />
archery, bouncy castles, police<br />
speed radar, henna tattoos and<br />
more.<br />
The event was supported<br />
by the Fendalton-Waimairi-<br />
Harewood and Halswell-<br />
Hornby-Riccarton Community<br />
Boards.<br />
