Writing Good Research Papers - Dr Manohara Pai M M & Dr Manjunath K N Page 13 Dr Manohar Pai M M & Dr Manjunath K N Manipal Institute of Technology Dr. Manohara Pai M M is a Professor and Associate Director of Research and Consultancy at MIT, Manipal. He is chairman of IEEE Mangalore Sub-Section. He has an experience of 26 years in research, academics and industry. He has wide publications in reputed conferences and journals, six patents to his name and has authored two books. Dr Manjunath K N received his Ph.D degree in Biomedical Engineering from MIT Manipal in 2017. He is currently a Faculty in CSE at MIT, Manipal. He has 3 invention disclosures with SIEMENS AG, Germany, 8 international indexed journal papers, and 12 conference proceedings. Writing Good Research Papers Dr Manohar Pai began the session on “How to write a good paper?” He began with the quote “Need is the mother of invention” and “Greed is the mother of innovation”. He clearly stated the difference between invention and innovation. He enlightened the audience about the types of innovation such as Incremental innovation, Transformational innovation, Disruptive innovation, Breakthrough innovation with examples for each. He gave an insight on Intellectual Property Rights and patents. The next session was handled by Dr Manjunath on “Publishing Research Papers”. His session began with the definition of the word ‘Research’. He gave us an idea about where to publish research paper and how to make research visible. He gave a demo on looking for a journal in Scopus. He brushed through the basics of research paper writing and publishing. He gave us an insight on the structure of scientific paper. The session was then continued by Dr Manohar Pai on the topic “Ethical issues and publication process”. He briefed on the structure of a technical paper and the key areas to focus on.
