(welcome on board). In June this year, we will expand our network to 55 destinations worldwide with the launch of new intercontinental flights to Rome, Italy and Geneva, Switzerland. This will mean that, in our 42 years of operation, we will have opened more than one new route per year, which is a great achievement. Route expansion doesn’t just help Kenya Airways grow, it also supports the economic development of Africa – one of our business goals – by increasing trade opportunities on the continent and beyond. In keeping with this theme of economic development, in this month’s issue we’re pleased to feature an article about three young entrepreneurs who are running successful companies, and have been featured in Forbes Africa magazine’s 30 Under 30 series as a result. One of them turned a fledgling graphic design business into a million-dollar media company. Read their unique stories, and also learn about a new plan to equip 10,000 entrepreneurs by 2024, which is expected to create one million jobs in Africa. Apart from the spectacular landscapes, unique wildlife and climate, this thriving economy is yet another reason to travel to Africa; but so too is the food. Our heritage article looks in detail at the best meals from the continent, and even provides you with several recipes so you can make them yourself (don’t forget, you can take this magazine with you). With spring beginning in the Northern Hemisphere on 20 March, this month is a great time to leave Africa and travel to the Netherlands. While Amsterdam is a popular place to visit, there’s a lot to see when you leave the capital. Our intercontinental travel story takes you on a trip by bike along the Dutch coast and into the historical city of Haarlem. Along the way, you’ll experience a scenic train ride to the coastal town of Zandvoort aan Zee, beach cafés and a beautiful national park that covers a large section of sand dunes. Thank you most sincerely for flying with Kenya Airways. I wish you an enjoyable flight. Sebastian Mikosz, Group Managing Director and CEO Kenya Airways Image: Jeroen van Loon
