Said Ms Steven:
“Without going through
the process of gaining a
resource consent, the city
council has bypassed the
hearing process which
gives interested parties an
opportunity to speak
in support or opposition
of what is being proposed.”
A Bruce Apartment
Body Corporate
spokesman told Bay
Harbour News it was an
absolute disgrace it was not
consulted before the toilets
were put there.
“City council contractors
have been filmed pumping
out these ugly toilets at
daybreak, causing loud
noise and distress to our
owners and guests, many of
whom are paying over $300
per night for the privilege
of being caught up in this
circus,” he said.
Deputy Mayor and
Banks Peninsula city
councillor Andrew Turner
believed the failure to seek
a resource consent was an
oversight from city council
staff.
“There has been a
degree of embarrassment
around the fact that
consent was not applied
for when it should have
been. City council has a
duty to lead by example in
these situations,” he said
yesterday.
Cr Turner understood
the city council was
seeking a retrospective
resource consent.
“My understanding
from council staff is that
retrospective consent
will be applied for
and obviously future
consenting requirements
will be met.”
Akaroa Civic Trust
chairman Mike Norris
said the toilets were an
eyesore.
“It just contributes to the
overall tackiness that we
are trying to combat,” he
said.
