UnCagedPhoenix Magazine: February 2019
February is generally the month where people start to slack on all the life-changing ideas and plans to which, at the end of 2018, they pledged their undying dedication. If that is you, don’t beat yourself up. Life is not a 100-meter race. It’s a marathon. The fact that you began the process—envisioning the various ways to improve your happiness, health, goals and overall value of your life—is already a great success. You are not alone in this! So instead of giving up, we are going to figure out a new game plan together.

RELATIONSHIPS
ay it with me: “Loving myself is not selfish. Loving myself is necessary for me to
grow as a person.” Good! But quick question…do you believe what you just read?
Whether you realize it or not, having a healthy dose of self-love is an important
key to living a wholesome and flourishing life. Self-love promotes good energy
and influences all the other facets of your existence. Who you choose to love, the
love you offer others, your work ethic and even the manner in which you handle
the problems you face, are significantly affected by the way you value and love
yourself. That’s why your first love affair should be the one you have with you!
Investing time and energy to practicing self-love will challenge the way you see
your ‘self’ and clear out the negative viewpoints you hold, while reinforcing your
value and worth. It can be messy at times, especially as we go deeper into the areas we prefer
to keep hidden. To help you start the process, here are four things that you can do to introduce
and prioritize self-love within your life today:
1
Be compassionate to you: It
is so easy to be understanding of what
others are going through in their lives, yet
somehow be unwilling to do the same thing
for yourself. This makes no sense! Before
you ridicule and judge yourself, allow space
to give grace and show mercy to yourself.
Being honest with ourselves allows us to see
not just our limitations and flaws, but also
our opportunities and gifts. Treating yourself
with kindness first will permit you to give
precedence to the things and individuals
who feed positivity into your life while
rejecting those that do not.
Forgive yourself: Nobody is perfect.
We all have flaws. We all have made bad
decisions. Forgive yourself for your past.
Holding yourself captive because of your
former transgressions is unfair to you. Give
yourself a reset button where you clear the
slate and start fresh. Take the lessons you have
learned with you but leave the blame in the
past. Granting forgiveness to yourself clears
your mental path and allows you to see why
you are worthy of receiving selfcare, respect
and future opportunities to grow.
