The team will face Southbrook at Rangiora’s Main Power Oval after both teams survived tight semi-finals a fortnight ago. Both teams finished with the same eight win, three loss record during the season, with Leeston- Southbridge winning the only 45-over encounter between the two teams by nine wickets on February 23. Leeston-Southbridge captain Chris Beatson said in spite of having the most consistent batting line-up in the competition, their bowlers will need to execute their plans well to secure the victory. “You get less room for error on a good batting track like Main Power and equally you have to take your chances when you get a loose ball when you’re batting,” he said. Beatson said his team will need to avoid being overawed by the situation and just do their jobs. “We know Southbrook have a strong batting line-up and with a former Black Cap in Shanan SPORT Stewart in the mix, we know they’ll have plenty of firepower.” Southbrook captain Tom Rodden said they have a squad of 14 who all have the prospect of playing. “We’ve got seven guys who can bowl nine overs, but we have to look at the size of Main Power as a ground to make sure our fielding is up to standard. I’d have confidence in our No 11 to go out there with 30 runs still to get. We bat very deep.” Opener Matt Brine has stood out this year. He has scored 372 runs at an average of 28, while Stewart is averaging 54 in his seven innings this year. Rodden said the opening bowling combination of Luan Blom and Sam Ermerins is one of the best in the competition, while veteran Darryn Boyle who is approaching 400 wickets for the club, is a key part of the bowling attack. Rodden said his team have preferred to chase totals this year but the pitch will decide the best option at the toss on Saturday.
