Linwood rallies to help businesses
A COMMUNITY event has
brought Linwood residents back
together after the mosque attack.
The event, organised by Lo
TV Rentals and city
councillor Yani Johanson,
was held on Wednesday
at Linwood Ave. It aimed
to help local businesses,
which were impacted by
the cordon.
Residents were joined
by police and Linwood
Islamic Centre members.
Games were held to
bring back some community
spirit to the area after the events
of March 15.
Yani
Johanson
Cr Johanson said the event had
been a great way to bring things
back to normality. “It was heartwarming
to see the community
coming together to show
support for this local area.”
He will continue
working with the
Linwood-Central-
Heathcote Community
Board “to strongly
advocate and work with
Government and the city
council to get support for
the ongoing recovery of
the Linwood Islamic Centre,
the Linwood community and
neighbourhood businesses.”
TOGETHER: Police helped entertain children at the Linwood
community event.
TREES LIKELY TO STAY
The future of 22 trees at Villa
Grove will be decided today by
the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton
Community Board. Southern
View reported in September Villa
Grove residents wanted them
removed. The residents presented
a 24-signature petition to the
board, calling for the trees to be
cut do=wn. City council staff have
recommended the trees not be
removed.
NEW CAR PARK PLAN
A new car park could be installed
at the south side of the Halswell
Domain. The proposed car
park would be located along the
Edward Stafford Ave frontage. It
is due to the high use of Halswell
Domain, which has led to parking
pressure. The Halswell-Hornby-
Riccarton Community Board will
look to approve the car park at its
meeting today.
