10 | April 11, 2019 | The Northbrook tower news northbrooktower.com From the Village Fire department responds to kitchen fire On the evening of Wednesday, April 3, the Fire Department responded to a 911 call for a kitchen fire on Blue Hill Terrace. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire, which started in the dishwasher. Working smoke detectors alerted the occupants to the fire and all were able to evacuate safely before the Fire Department’s arrival. This serves as a reminder to check your smoke detectors. It was also noted that the dishwasher’s malfunction that caused the fire was due to a faulty part, which had been recalled by the manufacturer. Fire Chief Andy Carlson reminds residents to visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission website at www.cpsc. gov to check for recalls. 1000 Skokie Boulevard Roadway improvements Last week, crews completed the installation of new landscaping in the project area. Project work will pause until later this spring when the contractor can begin final paving work. All traffic lanes will be open until the paving work begins. Staff anticipates all work will be completed by Friday, June 28. As a reminder, this work is being completed as part of the 1000 Skokie Boulevard development and includes pavement widening on Skokie and installation of a dedicated right-turn lane from Sunset Ridge Road to Skokie. Shermer Road Bridge Project This week, the Village’s contractor resumed installation of the brick sidewalk and parapet walls on the Shermer Road Bridge. This construction will require daily lane closures but the road will remain open to traffic throughout the project. Neumeyer, 23, of Chicago, were charged with possession of a controlled substance less than 30 grams, and possession of cannabis at 7:01 p.m. in the 1700 block of Tudor Lane on March 31. Officers responded to a call for suspicious subjects that were not recognized by neighbors. Officers located two subjects in a parked vehicle. A search of the subjects and the vehicle yielded cannabis edibles, a small bag of a green leafy substance, and several pills. The subjects were processed and transported to court. In other police news: April 3 • Kenneth Niebur, 69, of Chicago, was charged with no rear registration light and driving with a revoked driver’s license at 8:23 p.m. near the intersection of Dundee and Laurel roads. • Davion C. Lewis, 20, of Skokie, was charged with improper lane usage and no valid driver’s license at 12:10 a.m. near the intersection of Dundee and Portwine. April 2 • Michael T. Casserly, 37, of Northbrook, was charged with driving with a revoked license at 3:18 p.m. near the intersection of Second Street and Techny Road. • A complainant in the 600 block of Academy Drive reported at 12:29 p.m. that a subject used a credit card to make an unauthorized fuel purchase. Start Saving Today! www.centrustbank.com 385 Waukegan Road, Northbrook, IL 60062 847-267-1331 April 1 • Mukesh Reddy, 43, of Northbrook, was charged with driving while under the influence and improper lane usage at 8:39 p.m. near the intersection of Shermer and Techny Roads. • A complainant in the 1200 block of Shermer Road reported at 3:03 p.m. that an unknown subject used their information for tax purposes. March 31 • Lymarita Cheeks, 25, of Milwaukee, was charged with driving with a suspended license at retail theft at 6:37 p.m. near the intersection of Lake Cook and Wilmont; and Tyler S. Hendon-Latiker, 20, of Milwaukee, and Dinnesse Terrencia Battle, 21, of Milwaukee, were charged with retail theft at the same time and location. Officers on routine patrol observed a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle from a prior retail theft case. Officers stopped the vehicle and learned the registration for the vehicle was suspended, and also that the driver was driving with a suspended Wisconsin driver’s license. Officers observed three occupants in the vehicle and recognized two of the subjects from the prior theft case. Officers searched the vehicle and found numerous bags of merchandise that had recently been taken from several stores in South Barrington. The three subjects were processed and transported to court for bond hearings. • A shopper at the Mariano’s located in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard observed damage to the driver’s door handle of their vehicle at 3:20 p.m. after they completed their shopping. • A worker at the Dick’s Sporting Goods store located in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 10 a.m. that a male subject exited the store after failing to pay for a baseball glove. • A resident of the 3600 block of Pebble Beach Road reported at 2:40 a.m. that upon arriving home, they found several disturbed areas, which were not disturbed when they left. It’s unknown if anything is missing. March 29 • A worker at the Nordstrom Rack store located in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 4:14 p.m. two female subjects entered the store and removed various athletic apparel items from the store without paying for them.
