Sweet Sunset victory
for Nicks SPAR team

There was much joy for the Nicks
Foods Daily SPAR team,
consisting of captain Tony
Westpfahl, Michelle Ihlenfeldt
and Marco Teixeira, after they
were announced winners of the
Pick n Pay-sponsored Sunset
Bowls Tournament held at the
King Bowling Club recently.
The tournament, run twice a
year, is staged over a five-week
period, with two games of seven
ends played once a week with
the final consisting of 15 ends.
Going into the final this past
Tuesday against the Warthogs,
Nicks Foods Daily SPAR were in
an unassailable lead with 14
points while their nearest rivals
were on 11.
In third place were Mo-del,
followed by Buco. Jaluka, Ice
Box, Aqua Pura, TNT, Klippies,
Fat Cats, Multiheads and King
Bottle Store.
At the prize-giving, King
Bowling Club president Gordon
McCune thanked the ladies for
their help in selling food, the
braaiers, as well as the bar staff,
for all their hard work and
various sponsors for their
suppor t.
He also thanked organisers
Gary Lentz and Barry Hayidakis
for their effort.
Asked to comment on his
team's performance, Westpfahl
said he was proud.
"Competition was fierce, but
we are happy to have pulled
through.We would like to thank
the organisers for a great
initiative and we will be back
later this year to protect our
win,” said Westpfahl.

Despite a warm start,
the weather is expected
to be mostly cool over
the Easter weekend.
Thursday is expected
to be pleasant with a
maximum temperature
of 22°C – and partial
cloud cover.
As a pleasant
change, the wind is
expected to be blowing
in at just 7km/h from
the east.
Sweltering conditions
are expected on Friday
though, with
temperatures expected
to skyrocket to 31°C.
The winds will be
somewhat mild, with
wind speeds of 4km/h
from the north-west.
Temperatures take a
bit of a nose-dive on
Saturday, down to 22°C.
Wind speeds will pick
up, increasing in speed
to 18km/h and
switching to the
s o u t h - w e st .
Sunday will see the
likelihood of rain as
well as a further drop in
temperature to 20°C.
Wind will quieten down
a bit, only reaching
11km/h from the south.
