Sweet Sunset victory<br />

for Nicks SPAR team<br />

There was much joy for the Nicks<br />

Foods Daily SPAR team,<br />

consisting of captain Tony<br />

Westpfahl, Michelle Ihlenfeldt<br />

and Marco Teixeira, after they<br />

were announced winners of the<br />

Pick n Pay-sponsored Sunset<br />

Bowls Tournament held at the<br />

King Bowling Club recently.<br />

The tournament, run twice a<br />

year, is staged over a five-week<br />

period, with two games of seven<br />

ends played once a week with<br />

the final consisting of 15 ends.<br />

<strong>Go</strong>ing into the final this past<br />

Tuesday against the Warthogs,<br />

Nicks Foods Daily SPAR were in<br />

an unassailable lead with 14<br />

points while their nearest rivals<br />

were on 11.<br />

In third place were Mo-del,<br />

followed by Buco. Jaluka, Ice<br />

Box, Aqua Pura, TNT, Klippies,<br />

Fat Cats, Multiheads and King<br />

Bottle Store.<br />

At the prize-giving, King<br />

Bowling Club president <strong>Go</strong>rdon<br />

McCune thanked the ladies for<br />

their help in selling food, the<br />

braaiers, as well as the bar staff,<br />

for all their hard work and<br />

various sponsors for their<br />

suppor t.<br />

He also thanked organisers<br />

Gary Lentz and Barry Hayidakis<br />

for their effort.<br />

Asked to comment on his<br />

team's performance, Westpfahl<br />

said he was proud.<br />

"Competition was fierce, but<br />

we are happy to have pulled<br />

through.We would like to thank<br />

the organisers for a great<br />

initiative and we will be back<br />

later this year to protect our<br />

win,” said Westpfahl.<br />

from the north-west.<br />

Saturday, down to 22°C.<br />

Wind speeds will pick<br />

up, increasing in speed<br />

to <strong>18</strong>km/h and<br />

switching to the<br />

s o u t h - w e st .<br />

Sunday will see the<br />

likelihood of rain as<br />

well as a further drop in<br />

temperature to 20°C.<br />

Wind will quieten down<br />

a bit, only reaching<br />

11km/h from the south.<br />
