WESTERN NEWS
PEOPLE LIVING in the Carrs Rd area have
had to put up with kart racing for years
(page 1).
KartSport Canterbury wants to move to
McLeans Island but the wheels are turning
very slowly.
First the club needs to get resource consent to build at McLeans,
which in itself will take between 18 months and two years. But
working out how often and what times the club can operate a
track there for the resource consent is taking too long.
A seminar between the local community board and city council
staff in late May will thrash out these issues it is hoped. The
seminar has been prompted by the Awatea Residents’ Association.
Maybe association members should stand in the local body
election to speed things up.
