INTRODUCTION

About Us

Cedar Nursery is based near Cobham in Surrey. Just down the road from Effingham and East Horsley, established in 1986 by

Tim and Kate Sharples, we are an independent, family run Plant and Outdoor Living Centre in the heart of Surrey, serving

consumers and garden professionals for over 30 years.

Not only do we offer an exclusive range of planters, our aim is to offer a unique range of plants and outdoor living products.

Our plant varieties are both old and new which we know perform well, individually picked by us and sourced mainly from

local growers. By stocking the best varieties and having expertise available on site to advise you, we can ensure outstanding

value with plants that will thrive, perform and delight.

With decades of experience our expert craftsmen hand-form your planters ensuring a rapid

and accurate build. Each planter is individually built to your exact specifications.

Galvanised and Powder-coated steel planters have established themselves as a popular choice

for modern gardens. With their striking sharp lines and shining surfaces, our elegant designs

are an eye catching addition which fit perfectly with any planting scheme. Constructed from

high-grade steel sheets, the planters have an extensive lifespan. Galvanised finishes can

maintain a brilliant shine if coated with oil based products (e.g. WD40) or left to mellow with

a matte patina. Powder-coated planters can be specified with either a gloss for a long lasting

finish as well as a wide range of colours (see pages 11, 18 and 19 for more details).

Fibreglass Planters

Our range of Fibreglass planters are professionally designed to suit any situation and

style. They can be finished in a range of vibrant colours using the RAL colour-matching

scheme, as well as a number of special finishes - all of which are weather and sunlight

resistant so that they maintain their appearance without fading. Hand-crafted in the UK,

our Fibreglass planters are of a consistent high quality with short lead times for your

bespoke requirements. Their elegant design and plentiful finish options make them the

ideal fit for any garden area, complementing a wide range of plants. They can also be pre

-drilled for drainage if used outside, or left sealed and fully water-tight for interior use.

Fibreglass itself is made from special plastic polymers which are then reinforced with

randomly arranged glass fibres. This produces a strong lightweight material whose bulk

strength exceeds many metals with the advantage that it can be easily moulded into

complex shapes. As such it is the perfect material for outdoor planters especially where

weight is an issue. See pages 16, 17, 18 and 19 for colours and special finishes.

Fibreglass: Textured, Smooth Matt and High Gloss

Textured, Smooth Matt and High Gloss are the standard finishes available for fibreglass planters, in addition to any of the

RAL colours. More images are available on the website showing finishes on actual planters and you can also buy RAL charts

from us.

Textured

Applied with rollers, this finish has a rippled effect creating a more natural look and

is the most cost effective paint finish (over 75% of our planters are ordered in this

finish).

Smooth Matt

Similar to powder-coating, the Smooth Matt is a flawless paint finish and is often

specified if matching existing metal planters.

High Gloss

This is a deep gloss finish, very highly polished and striking. Again, like Smooth Matt

this is similar to a powder-coated finish. Makes your planter stand out and reflect

Terracotta Planters

We offer a beautiful collection of hand-finished terracotta containers and planters

including contemporary and traditional designs. The refinement of the collection is

reviewed annually by a team of designers, working closely with the manufacturing and

marketing teams to update the designs and introduce unique models and product

ideas.

The colour of the clay has a mellow antique finish that is subtle and is perfectly

harmonious with the classic as well as the more contemporary garden styles. Each

piece is hand-finished to the highest standards. Their composition and thickness make

them very robust and sturdy and they are fully certified as frost-resistant.

The larger pots are ample for specimen trees and shrubs whilst the smaller ones suit

Manufactured to a high standard from 100% organic materials, these planters

are light weight, frost and UV resistant.

Our faux lead Fibreclay range offers a traditional and authentic look, whilst

offering excellent value for money.

This eco-friendly range is manufactured from recycled materials and

production requires only 10% of the energy used for ceramic and plastic

equivalents. The planters are lightweight enough to be easily moved before

planting and will weather gently and realistically, whilst emitting salts that

result in an attractive, misty, faux-lead patina. The range includes boxes,

stoneware, that has been fired to extreme temperatures to create the tough iron

Fibrestone Planters

Fibrestone is a recently developed, innovative material that has all the benefits

of fibreglass, such as durability and strength, coupled with the aesthetics of

natural stone. Each planter is handmade from the mixture of polyester resin

and ground stone with additional strands of fibreglass to ensure long-lasting

durability and a solid, authentic planter that will not chip or damage easily.

Fibrestone planters are frost-resistant, suitable for both indoor and outdoor

use, and are perfect for entry areas of restaurants, hotels, other commercial

settings as well as the home. Our range is available in black (L), white (W), grey

(K) and red (R). The range consists of cubes, troughs and tapered planters.

Polystone Planters

This range of pots not only offers modern, sleek styling, but also outstanding

resilience. Polystone is an extremely dense compound made from a mix of

special unsaturated resin, MMA and natural minerals and will stand up to the

harshest of elements and look good all the while. It has the appearance of

stone but whilst it retains a solid heavy feel it is more manageable in weight.

Our Polystone Cubic planters are perfect for housing specimen trees such as

Bays, Ligustrum, Photinia and Olives. The extra large Polystone Jumbo trough

has a massive planting capacity. Despite their size and wide walls they are

contemporary in appearance with well crafted round edges and perfect for

filling any void areas on the garden patio.

Corten Steel Planters

Starting out as a blue steel, as soon as Corten Steel is exposed to the elements

it will naturally weather and develop a rich eye catching finish. This natural

fixed coating of rust provides protection against further corrosion.

During the weathering process the Corten Steel produces carbon run off which

can stain adjacent materials such as stone or concrete. To reduce this possible

staining, all Corten Steel products have small feet, lifting the product and

preventing direct contact with the flooring material.

After the initial reactive period Corten Steel will cure and self-seal with little to

no carbon run off.

Standard material thickness is 2mm and we offer a made to measure service as

well as our wide range of sizes of boxes, cylinders and troughs.
