JOB DESCRIPTION
FRIENDS OF THE LEVITT PAVILION @ SteelStacks TRUSTEE
Mission of the Friends of the Levitt Pavilion @ SteelStacks: To present and support musical performances at the
Levitt Pavilion in the City of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
FRIENDS OF THE LEVITT PAVILION @ STEELSTACKS BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Under the by-laws of the organization the Board of Trustees is vested with the authority and responsibility of
overall governance of the corporation. The role of the Board of Trustees will be to:
a. Develop and approve of the annual operating and the capital budgets.
b. Manage the strategic planning process and evaluate the plan annually.
c. Advise the professional staff in the development and presentation of the musical programs
offered free to the community at the Levitt Pavilion at SteelStacks.
d. Manage the governance of the organization, board development, board evaluation and
nominations.
e. Manage the financial stability of the organization, including working with staff to seek
philanthropic gifts, government and foundation grants, and earned revenue.
f. Develop and maintain the policies of the organization.
g. Such other duties as are appropriate or vested in the Trustees by-law.
Responsibilities of a Trustee:
a. Attend Board meetings (generally 7 – 9 annually)
b. Be an active member of a Board Committee
c. Contribute expertise, either during Board or Committee meetings, or as requested to assist staff
with management matters
d. Advocate for the Levitt Pavilion in the community
e. Contribute personally $250 and secure through an employer or through solicitation to third parties
an additional $2,500 annually or contribute personally $2,500 annually.
Qualifications Sought
The Friends of the Levitt Pavilion @ SteelStacks4 Board of Trustees will need diverse skill sets to manage and
support the programs of the Levitt Pavilion, including, but not limited to: financial, accounting, banking,
marketing, music, business leadership, community leadership, philanthropy and/or fundraising.
Terms of office: Trustees are elected for a term of three (3) years; however, a Trustee may initially fill a one (1) or
two (2) year partial term. Under the by-laws, no trustee may serve for more than three (3) consecutive three (3)
year terms, in addition to any partial term.
Relationship with ArtsQuest: The Friends of the Levitt Pavilion @ SteelStacks is a subsidiary not-for-profit
corporation of ArtsQuest, also a Pennsylvania not-for-profit corporation. The Trustees of the Friends of the Levitt
Pavilion are appointed by the Board of Trustees of ArtsQuest. The Trustees of the Friends of the Levitt Pavilion have
the responsibility for developing the programs, budget and all other aspects of the Levitt Pavilion’s programming.
The Friends of the Levitt Pavilion have access to ArtsQuest’s professional staff for the needs of the organization,
including marketing, development, planning and programming. The Executive Director of the Friends of the Levitt
Pavilion @ SteelStacks is an employee of ArtsQuest contracted to the Friends organization. The Executive Director
is contracted to the Friends organization and receives all of the employee benefits to which ArtsQuest employees
are entitled.
