This Learning Cycle in Character
t King’s we place our ASPIRE values at the heart of everything we do. This
Learning Cycle we focus on our value of ENDEAVOUR.
We will discuss how its important to be driven and determined.
Independence is a key element of endeavour too. We will look at how we
need to try hard in all aspects of life; from relationships to our studies.
Each year group has a lesson a week in Character – here we look at
Personal, Social, Moral and Economic (PSHE) areas.
For example, the topics covered this Learning Cycle include:
Year 7 – Endeavouring to have positive relationships;
Changing relationships and diversity
Year 8 – Endeavouring to be conscientious;
Community on a global scale
How can people support our
Character focus?
Discuss the topics around the dinner table. What do you all
know? Don't hesitate to ask in school if you want to know
more!
Encourage each other to show the values – for students that
could mean completing your Character Passport (Y7/8)
or Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
If any parents have a field of expertise, through your job or
studies, and you would like to support Character at King’s,
please contact n.burrows@kingswarrington.com
Year 9 – Endeavouring to have a healthy outlook; Keeping myself
healthy and free from addiction
Year 10 – Endeavouring to cope with crisis and change;
Crises and change in life
Year 11 – Exam season – best of luck!
Year 12 - Endeavouring to have healthy relationships
Year 13 - Exam season – best of luck!
How can people support our Character focus?
Discuss the topics above around the dinner table. What do you all know? Don't hesitate to ask in school if you want to know more!
Encourage each other to show the values – for students that could mean completing your
Character Passport (Y7/8) or Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
“We must remember that intelligence is not enough.
Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education”.
The Internet can be wonderful for students They can use it to research school reports, communicate with teachers
and other students, and play interactive games.
However, online access also comes with risks, like inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and people they meet
online who may not be genuine. Using apps and websites where students interact, these people may pose as a
child or teen looking to make a new friend. They might prod the child to exchange personal information, such as
address and phone number, or encourage students to call them, seeing their phone number via caller ID.
Parents should be aware of what their kids see and hear on the Internet, who they meet, and what they share about themselves. Talk with your kids, use
tools to protect them, and keep an eye on their activities
Online Protection Tools
Online tools let you control student access to adult material and help protect them from Internet predators. Many Internet service providers (ISPs) provide parentcontrol
options. You can also get software that helps block access to sites and restricts personal information from being sent online. Other programs can monitor and
track online activity.
Getting Involved in Students Online Activities
More important than blocking objectionable material is teaching our students safe and responsible online behaviour, and keeping an eye on their Internet use. The
school covers topics like this throughout the ASPIRE curriculum, often during the times when students are not in school issues can arise.
Basic guidelines to share with your child for safe online use:
Follow the family rules, and those set by the Internet service provider.
Never post or trade personal pictures.
Never reveal personal information, such as address, phone number, or school name or location.
Use only a screen name and don't share passwords (other than with parents).
Never agree to get together in person with anyone met online without parent approval and/or supervision.
Never respond to a threatening email, message, post, or text.
Always tell a parent or other trusted adult about any communication or conversation that was scary or hurtful.
As students get older, it gets a little trickier to monitor their time spent online. They may carry a smartphone with them at all times. They probably want — and need
some privacy. This is healthy and normal, as they're becoming more independent from their parents. The Internet can provide a safe "virtual" environment for exploring
some newfound freedom if precautions are taken. Talking about the sites and apps teens use and their online experiences will raise awareness. Discuss the
dangers of interacting with strangers online and remind them that people online don't always tell the truth. Explain that passwords are there to protect against things
like identity theft. They should never share them with anyone, even a boyfriend, girlfriend, or best friend.

On Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd May, eleven
of our cadets took to the skies by means of an Air
Experience Flight. This has been a long time coming
due to an ongoing runway repair at RAF Woodvale but
we are happy to say that flying is back on the agenda
for our Air Cadets and those that went had an amazing
day. Lance Corporal Chris Davies said “I loved every
minute of it!”
After a safety briefing and evacuation training, each of
our cadets were kitted up in flying gear with a flight
suit, life jacket, parachute, helmet, gloves and
sunglasses! Once the aircraft and pilot were ready,
they were walked out to the aircraft by Flying Officer
Ellis and strapped in by one of the flight line crew.
There were nerves, there was excitement and there
was uncertainty but once in the aircraft, some happy
faces and poses for photos! Cadet Phoebe Kelly said
“I’m excited and nervous but I think it’s going to be
great!”
Each sortie (flight) lasted around 30 minutes and it
was up to the individual cadet to decide what they
wanted to do with their time. Many opted for the thrill
of aerobatics, while some chose to look around the
local area. All had a chance to “take control” of the
aircraft and fly it, under the watchful eye of their
accompanying pilot after some basic controls
demonstrations. Corporal Calum Cooper said post
flight “that was the best thing ever!”
Safe to say, all are back at school buzzing with
enthusiasm for their next flight and as always, they
were a credit to Kings - well done! Many thanks to
10AEF at RAF Woodvale for accommodating us!

This week we spoke to , Year 9 Leader - Miss Greatbanks at King’s…
Did you have a flight path?
I have known from a very young age that I wanted to work with
children in some capacity. When I was in school, I wanted to be
a PE teacher and then a children's nurse! However, as soon as I
did my work experience in a school, I realised that Year Leader
would be the perfect role for me. I love my new job at King’s!
What inspires you?
What drew you to King’s?
. I am inspired every day by the students and staff at King’s. The
students are hard-working young people who are dedicated to
succeeding, and the staff are devoted to making sure that they
reach their full potential. The other Year Leaders have helped
me to settle in really quickly and I will always be thankful for
this!
Are you involved in any extra-curricular
activities?
My greatest achievement is graduating from University with a
2:1 degree in Psychology. I loved going to University but the
workload was enormous so I was really proud of myself when I
graduated.
What is your favourite part of the King’s day?
. Outside of school, I like to go to the gym to keep fit and
healthy. I was a ballet dancer for 15 years so any gym classes
that involve dancing are perfect for me! I have two nieces and
two nephews so they take up a lot of my time - I love spending
time with them at the weekends.
What is your greatest achievement?
My favourite part of the day is lunch time as I am able to interact
with pupils from my year and other years - I love when the pupils
come up to me for a chat!
Have you learnt anything new since starting at
King’s?
I was drawn to King’s after hearing what an amazing school it
was and how the pupils were eager to learn. After reading about
the ASPIRE code, I knew that King's was a school with good
values and I could see myself fitting in well here. I have always
heard the pupils spoken about in such high regard; I couldn't
wait to start once I found out I was the new Year Leader!
I learn new things from/about the pupils in my Year group
every day. It's really interesting to hear about what they like to
get up to in their spare time and what their passions and
achievements are. I've also learnt that as a Year leader, every
day brings new challenges - this means that my job is really
interesting and adds to the fact that I love being a Year Leader
at King’s!
