Bread Buddies is a Crawford College North
Coast Interact initiative that aims to feed the
underprivileged in our community. Every
Wednesday at first break the Interact Team
as well as many other students come together
in the school quad to make peanut butter
and jam sandwiches. It’s a great place to
make friends and listen to some good music.
On average we make 120 sandwiches in 15
minutes. We receive our bread, peanut butter
and jam from donations made by students.
The sandwiches we make go to Ithemba
Labasha, a crèche in Shaka’s Head.
Like the Beatles, the Crawford College North Coast Interact Club believes
that all you need is love. It all started on Valentine’s Day when the team
set off for the Ballito Lifestyle Shopping Centre to spread love and hope.
Our talented Crawford singers entertained the shoppers with love songs,
while the rest of us handed out inspirational cards, sweets and ‘free
hugs’, which we believe is a cure for any bad day. The response from the
community was phenomenal! It was wonderful to see how our small act of
kindness made such a huge impact. The community had a little more love
in it thanks to our Interact family… and maybe the Beatles too!
In February, the Interact group of 2019 went
to Ark Animal Rescue Centre in Chartwell,
Johannesburg. They cleaned shelters, moved
large furniture and tidied up certain areas.
They also spent time with the puppies
feeding them, playing with them and loving
them. This symbiotic relationship benefited
both our students and the neglected animals
in our community!
Students and teachers from
Crawford College Pretoria
visited the Sunnyside Pen
Ignite Education Centre to
deliver much-needed gifts
to the children. On previous
visits to the centre, it was
established that there was a
need for earphones to assist
the students with their reading
programme. Using funds
received from the My School
Card initiative, Crawford
College Pretoria was able to
donate 25 sets of earphones,
as well as toys, books and
other items that were donated
by parents and students.
In support of the fight against cancer,
Crawford College Pretoria hosted a
CANSA Shavathon/Sprayathon. They
raised over R60 000 from the event.
Teacher, Richard van Jaarsveld, shaved
his hair, beard and eyebrows in support
of this worthy cause and received a
R9 500 donation from the Muslim
Students’ Association.
