TWO new Calpe hotels
that have already proved
controversial even while
under construction, are
now being linked to waste
water that is running a
channel through one of
the resorts most popular
stretches of beach, the
Arenal Bol.
The ecological
association ACEC has
denounced the situation
while social networks have

asking if the water is safe.
The channel is actually
the convergence of two
different water sources
and, while it seems
to originate from the
construction sites, it is not
entirely clear that they are
to blame.
One of these sites is
for the Suitopia Hotel, a
building that many think
is breaking planning laws
due to it being too tall.
Some say that the site has
been discharging water
for a year and this is the
cause of the channel. Not
holding back with their
criticism, in a statement the
ACEC said: “the constant
greedy construction on
the beachfront, often of
dubious legality, shows
that contempt for the law
has become normal in
Calp”. Whatever the origin
or makeup of the water,
it is generally agreed that
the best advice for the
moment is for you and
your children to avoid
paddling in the channels.
Thankfully Calpe still has
one of the longest stretches
of beach on the Costa
Blanca so there is plenty
of space for everyone.
