by Alex Trelinski
Barcelona´s Lionel Messi is
the world’s highest paid athlete,
earning $127m in the past 12
months, according to the Forbes
top 100 rankings.
Ex-Real Madrid and now Juventus
forward Cristiano Ronaldo
is second on $109m with
Messi´s ex-Barca teammate,
Last year’s highest earner,
boxer Floyd Mayweather, has
dropped off the list.
Serena Williams is the only
woman in the top 100, earning
$29.2m.
Five-time Formula 1 world
sitting at 13th on $55m.W
BARCELONA BECKONS
by Alex Trelinski
An exciting finish
between four riders
in the Italian MotoGP
at the start of the
month and the firstever
win for Italy´s
Danilo Petrucci has
teed things up nicely
as the championships
return to Spain
for this Sunday´s
Catalunya Grand
Prix.
Despite coming
second in Italy,
Spain´s world
champion Marc
Marquez extended
his lead in the
standings to 12 points
over Petrucci´s
Ducati teammate
Andrea Dovizioso.
Ferrari’s Sebastian
Vettel believes
Formula 1 has lost
its way, in the wake of
the penalty that cost him
victory in Sunday´s Canadian
Grand Prix.
The four-time champion
won on the road but
was handed a five-second
penalty for rejoining the
track dangerously and
impeding Mercedes’
Lewis Hamilton.
The German said the
rules had left drivers
sounding “like lawyers”
and that there was “no
edge” to the sport.
“It’s all wrong. I disagree
with where the
But for neutrals
wanting action
and not just
another Marquez
parade(despite
his brilliance), the
Ducati revival augurs
well for some great
races to come,
including Barcelona
this weekend.
There will also be
other Spanish riders
in the mix like Alex
Rins and Maverick
Vinales wanting to
do well on home soil,
with the race starting
at 2.00 pm.
FUMING VETTEL
sport is
now,” Vettel
said.
Ferrari says they have
appealed against the decision,
even though the
rules say that a five-second
penalty is a verdict
against which the right of
appeal does not exist.
The bottom line was
that Ferrari lost their first
win of the F1 season, and
Hamilton is 29 points
ahead of Mercedes teammate,
and 62 clear of an
unhappy Vettel.
It´s back to Europe for
the next race, which is
the French Grand Prix a
week on Sunday.
TOUGH TASK AHEAD
Villajoyosa CF(pictured
before kick-off) have a
mountain to climb if they´re
to get promoted to the Valencian
Regional Third division,
after losing the first leg of
their Preferente play-off final,
four-one at UD Beniganim.
Beniganim were four up
after an hour, with Martin´s
strike ten minutes from time,
giving Villajoyosa some hope
ahead of the return home leg
this Saturday at 6.30 pm.
There are no worries for
Alicante side, CF Intercity,
who thrashed CD Onda fournil
in their away leg, and like
Villajoyosa, host the second
leg tomorrow at 6.30 pm.
And a second team from
Alicante are in the driving
seat for promotion, as Hercules
B take a two-nil lead
to Ribarroja CF tomorrow
night, with a 7.00 pm kickoff.
