Collectively, we enjoy many liberties, but some freedoms can be elusive – and financial freedom is one of them. What actions can you take to help yourself eventually declare your own financial independence? For starters, you’ll want to determine what financial independence means to you. Is it the liberty to meet all your cash flow needs? The freedom to retire comfortably, at the age you choose? The ability to set up the kind of legacy you’d like to leave? The cost of living is certainly not cheap, so it’s hardly surprising that so many people incur significant debt. Yet, the higher your debt load, the less you’ll have available to invest for the future. Debt might be one of the biggest barriers you face on the road to your financial independence. New Life of Currituck Making memories by Pastor Dan Bergey Something that I have learned over the years is that memories are a part of what shapes us, good and bad ones. Sometimes those memories get locked away until something happens and brings them back to the surface. Often it’s the little things in life that end up meaning the most to us later in life. It’s not the stuff that we had that is important but instead the things that we did. The times we spent together as a family, the times we helped someone in need, the times that we were there for someone when they needed us the most. We try to lock away and forget the bad things. The bad things are just as important in shaping us as the good. We need to learn from the bad and not dwell on it. Give everything to God, the good and the bad. Don’t let situations control who and what you are. In a way it’s like this with God. He remembers what we did too. He remembers when we spend time with him, when we help people, when we do everything. The best part is that when we turn our lives over to God and ask for forgiveness, he forgets our bad stuff. Psalm 25:7 says “Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; According to Your lovingkindness remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O LORD.” It’s important to spend time with your family and make memories, but it’s even more important to spend time with God and make memories with him. As you are out this summer “making memories” with your family, don’t forget to spend time with God too.
