OWL
MISS YOU
PARTY
Nursery and Kindergarten students had
an OWL MISS YOU party on Wednesday,
June 12, 2019. They enjoyed each
other’s companies and a lot of fun
activities
First, students sang a song about owls
and danced like owl. They also imitated
the hooting sound of owls several times.
The activity was followed by a story
telling. Teachers told a story about “The
Owl and the Kitty Cat”, using a digital
book equipped with interactive images.
Cooking class was also held where
students made a Fruity Owl Bread.
The round bread was topped with
delicious and nutritious chocolate jam,
banana slices, raisins and strawberries.
The yummy bread was decorated like Owl
face!
Moreover, kids did not miss the fun of
arts and craft class. They made an owl
paper craft. Students stuck the colored
paper to the paper canvas with leaves,
twigs and owl’s perch.
Finally, they played math games that
enhances counting skills with the owl
theme. Before going home, they brought
a special goodie bag and their Fruity Owl
Decorated Bread as their treat.
NEW SCHOOL PROGRAM AT SPB
Simple Coding by
Tynker Curricullum
Coding will help the development
of literacy and numeracy as well
as in studying other subjects in
school.
Coding or computer programming
is writing a set of instructions to a
computer so it will understand and
perform a task.
Learning to code is like learning how
to speak and write in a computer’s
language.
With the development of the use of
technology in all lines of life, including in
all lines of the economic sector, it is very
necessary for students to have these
skills, so that they become the basis for
the future.
Coding in Primary School will help
students think structurally, solve
problems, build perseverance, increase
creativity, and improve communication
skills and collaboration. In addition,
coding will help the development of
literacy and numeracy as well as in
studying other subjects in school.
This skill will also be an advantage when
in the world of work in the future.
Coding lesson in SPB will be part of
the ICT program and curriculum in the
Primary School. SPB adopts the Tynker
curriculum where each student will have
a Tynker account and will follow the
progression according to their grade
level and ability. Teachers will be able
to monitor students’ development skills
online and can also integrate coding with
other lessons.
SPB PARENTING TIPS
SPB PARENTING TIPS
an actual crisis arises. “Remember, it’s
impossible to build a bridge in the middle
of a quake, but a bridge built earlier
may be flexible and sturdy enough to
ward off a quake when it comes,” says
Ceranoglu. “A relationship is just like
that. Its foundation and flexible nature
are important ingredients of happiness.”
Taking an approach that’s too direct
You’re probably not going to get a lot out
of your child if you say, “Let’s sit down
and talk.” Instead, do something together
your child likes and let the conversation
happen. Spending more time with him
now will help build the bridges you’ll
need later. “Your consistent presence in
your child’s life will help your child
feel comfortable with talking to you if
something bothers him,” says Ceranoglu.
What works when talking to middle school
kids
Even if you manage to avoid these
common conversational pitfalls, your
child may still not be a little chatterbox,
but that’s normal. All you can do is let
him know that you are around and ready
whenever he is, and be prepared to drop
whatever you’re doing when your child
wants to talk. Don’t worry, you won’t
have to keep dropping things for the
rest of your life, because once your child
is convinced of your genuine interest,
you will have built a relationship that
encourages true communication.
Top 3 mistakes parents make when
talking to middle school kids
By Valle Dwight
Talking to middle school kids can be
a bit of an art. When you’re ready to
sit down and have a chat with your
adolescent — whether it’s to find
out how his day went or to discuss
more serious topics like homework,
his behavior, or his friends — there is
definitely a right way and a wrong way to
do it. And if you happen to try the latter,
you may well run smack-dab into a dead
end.
“Talking to our children in a way that
lets them express what is on their mind
is extremely important,” explains Dr.
Atilla Ceranoglu, a child and adolescent
psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School.
“Talking to children from early on
keeps both child and parent attuned to
one another. It is solid preparation for
the more stormy, tumultuous days of
adolescence.”
Waiting for a crisis
When tensions are high, your child is not
going to be in a position to open up to
you. Engage early and often, before there
is a problem. This way you will develop
a rapport with your child that will be very
important when an actual crisis arises.
bridge in the middle of a quake, but a
bridge built earlier may be flexible and
sturdy enough to ward off a quake when
5 tips for summer socializing
by GreatSchools Staff
The break from school is a great time
for kids to hone their friend-making
skills.
Strong social skills include everything
from having empathy and showing
an interest in others to starting a
conversation, giving compliments, and
taking turns. And summer is the perfect
time for youngsters to practice these
skills and build their confidence in the
process — all of which will help when they
return to school in the fall.
Here are some simple steps to build on
your kids’ friendship skills:
What’s a friend anyway?
Don’t assume your children know what
being a good friend entails. Talk about
taking turns, sharing, and showing an
interest in others and how these actions
will make peers and classmates feel good
and want to spend time with them. Ask
your kids how they feel when someone
doesn’t share with them or makes them
feel left out. By explaining how other
children feel the same way, this will help
them develop empathy.
Mingle more
The more your children interact with
others, the better they’ll get at it. And
having them meet a wide variety of
people in different situations will let them
practice under different circumstances.
Even if your family is planning to stay
home this summer, make sure your kids
get out to places where they’ll meet other
kids — for example, the playground, the
public pool, and children’s hour at the
library. If they’re going to camp or taking
classes, encourage them to talk to new
kids and try to make friends.
One “Hi” at a time
If your kids are especially shy, make
a plan to help them get comfortable
making new friends. Set small, daily
goals — the first step might be to
encourage them to smile and greet one
or two new people each day. Once they’ve
mastered this, up the ante a bit and have
them add a conversation starter (such as
a question about the other person’s day
or a compliment).
Just add drama
Since most social skills are learned
by watching and imitating others, it
makes sense to role-play the kinds
of social situations that make your
children uncomfortable or nervous. You
might feel silly acting out an interaction
between kids, but it really does help your
children to practice in a safe place. Try
several possible responses so that they
understand there can be many outcomes
to any interaction. If your children want to
confront a friend who hurt their feelings,
for instance, role-play an encounter
where the other child apologizes, and
another where the child continues to
tease them. Talk about what the next step
should be in each situation.
Accentuate the positive, eliminate
the negative
When you see your children making a
kind gesture, be sure to praise them
for it. “That was nice of you to give Joe
another turn after he dropped the ball.
That’s being a good friend.”
You’ve told your children what makes a
good friend — now it’s time to talk about
what will stop a friendship in its tracks.
Teach them not to brag, put others down,
be a sore loser, or hog conversations. If
you hear them doing any of these things,
gently remind them that a good friend
doesn’t do that. Also ask your children
how they think their friend responded:
“How do you think that made him
feel? Does it look like he’s happy?” It’s
important for kids to understand the
power they have on others, and this is
a good way for yours to start.eligibility
Words that Help Kids Play Well
with Others
by Leslie Crawford
Blame and shame words
You cheated!
Playing fair words
I don’t think
that’s how this
game is played.
The rule is…
You’re
a tattle
tale!
I wish you would
tell me first when
you don’t like
something I did.
Move over!
I don’t have
enough room.
Could you
move?
Kids aren’t born knowing how to play
nicely with other kids. When they feel left
out, are bullied, or when a friend orsibling
tattles on them or takes something from
them, they might yell, hit, kick, or run in
fear.
To help your child learn to play well with
others, you can help teach social skills
with some easy-to-remember phrases
that make playing more fun and fair:
“Tell not yell.”
“Be mad, but not mean.”
“Be helpful, not hateful.”
Teach your child, too, to use “playing fair”
words instead of “blame and shame”
words. Learning to use these words can
help children control difficult emotions
like being mad, sad, or frustrated.
You’re not
the boss of
me!
You’re not my
friend anymore!
I don’t like it
when you give
me orders.
I don’t like what
you said about me
to Alicia. I’m mad at
you.
Blame and shame words
Playing fair words
Liar!
I heard you say
something
different before.
You’re so
Stop teasing
me. I don’t like
it.
SPB STUDENT'S WORKS
SPB STUDENT'S WORKS
Once upon a time there was a mermaid
names Victoria. She’s known as a half
human and half fish. No one knows
about that. She is having swimming
lessons to some kids and one of them
is Selena. Her father is Ravey. Selena is
twelve years old. She is a kind and caring
person. Her mom died when she was
little.
One day, when Ravey was accompanying
Selena to her swimming lesson, he
wondered why Victoria never wears
a swimsuit during her teaching time.
Ravey wanted to ask her but maybe it’s
rude for him to do that. He thought that
maybe she has some other personal
reasons for that matter. After the lesson,
Victoria wanted to go somewhere,
“Excuse me Sir, but I need to go
somewhere.”
“Sure. Where are you going?” Ravery
wondered.
“I have something to do,” answered
Victoria with a smile.
“Ok, Selena and I will go ahead anyway.”
18
VICTORIA
By Azwa Ekaputri (P6 Stego)
After Victoria left, Ravey decided to
follow her because he’s curious of
what’s going on. Leaving Selena by
the pool, Ravey excused himself to the
toilet. He saw footprints just outside the
pool stadium and he followed them. He
couldn’t find Victoria. The footprints led
near his beach house. This gave him
a big confusion. From a distance, he
saw Victoria near the beach. “What is
she doing there?” he wondered. Ravey
went near the beach and hid behind
the bushes. Victoria’s body started
to glimmer and shimmer. He was so
amazed with what he saw. He legs
started to disappear and they turned into
a long sparkly rainbow-colored tail!
“Impossible!” Ravey shouted. He
immediately covered his mouth
remembering that he was spying on
her. Victoria heard the noise and turned
around to see who was there or where
was the noise coming from. She spotted
Ravey behind the bushes and she quickly
dived into the water. Ravey went back
to the swimming pool and he couldn’t
believe what he just saw.
“Dad, what took you so long in the
toilet?” Selena asked.
“There were many people in the line so I
have to wait that long,” he reasoned.
“Well, ok,” she sighed.
“I can’t believe I saw a mermaid with a
long sparkly rainbow tail near the beach,”
he whispered to Selena. “I don’t know if
I was imagining or was it real? If it was a
real one, I’ll catch her and I can be rich. It
will cost more than enough.”
Rumors about a mermaid spread quickly
and Victoria pretended she did not know
anything. She doesn’t know what to do if
Ravey finds out her secret. She planned
to tell Selena the truth whether she
believes her or not.
One month later, Ravey was planning
how to catch the mermaid so he made a
trap at the beach. Victoria was preparing
herself to tell the truth to Selena. Ravey
wanted to be rich so he can make Selena
happy.
Victoria found out the trap at the beach,
“Is this his plan to catch me? A trap on
the tree?” She almost forgot that she
has a lesson with Selena at that time
and hurriedly ran to the swimming pool.
Ravey and Selena were already waiting
for her.
“Come on, Selena. Let’s start our lesson,”
Victoria said.
“Why are you acting so strange
nowadays? This is the first time you are
late,” Selena said calmly.
“Ok here’s the truth. It’s your choice if
you will believe me or not. I am a half
human and half fish. I’m a mermaid,”
Victoria whispered,
“That’s why I never swim whenever I
teach you or else my tail will appear.”
“You’re what? A mermaid?” Selena was
shocked.
“Shhhhh! Not too loud. I am only telling
this to you.”
“Ok, your secret is safe with me.”
“I think your dad is suspecting me that
I’m a mermaid. He has been spying on
me and he even set a trap on the beach
to catch me so he can be rich. I need
your help.”
“He did that?”
“Yes! I’ll show it to you after our lesson
later.”
When Selena was done with her lesson,
she asked her dad if she can play with
Victoria. The plan was to go to the beach
and put down the trap. Ravey went home
and the two went on with their plan.
“Here, throw this big rock at the bottom
of the tree,” Victoria suggested. When
Selena did it, a gigantic box falling down
from the tree came out. “I knew it!”
“My father made this trap?”
“Yeah. He is trying to catch me.”
“We need to tell this to the police,”
Selena said firmly.
“But my secret will be revealed.”
“It’s your choice.”
“Ok, fine.”
They called the police and told them
everything. At first the police didn’t
believe that mermaid exists. Selena kept
on persuading the police until finally they
believed her. The police planned to arrest
the father at home.
Selena went home and told everything to
her dad. Minutes, later the police came
in their house and arrested him bringing
him to jail. Selena will be put in a child
center while his father is in the jail. She
is sad of course but her father needs
to be corrected even though he did it to
make her happy.
When given warmth and care
It grows and grows
Like a beautiful crimson red rose
freezy Her smile breeze turned blew. to a frown
Freezy When everything breeze made comes these down
Greed is all we’ve done
three trees freeze.
And what’s left is none
Freezy trees made these
trees' cheese freeze.
FRIENDS
That's what
by Jevon
made
E. T. (P6 Corytho)
You gave us life
That can’t ever be paid
Your love is still here
Even when you are gone
Love is like a rose
It could grow as long as a hose
But it could be tangled
And eventually be mangled
Friends, they come and go
In many different types as well
There are those whose heart is low
And some who help you see
Failure
by Dara D. B. (P6 Stego)
Getting hurt can
Make us grow
And the more you fail
The more you will know
If we fail
We try to gain
The great lessons
By learning from our pain
Never Give Up
by Vincent S. H. (P6 Corytho)
I believe in my self
I don’t let them sink me to the ground
I don’t listen to people complaining
I trust my self on everything
I listen to motivation
I also listen to inspiration
Never give up
Never give up
Some could hurt us
But most are nice
Those who hurt, hit our heart with a bus
And the nice ones wash away the spice
2 3 Careful 4 though, 5 6because 7 they 8might 9 be phoney ? !
These could be dangerous so stay away
Q W E R T Y U I O P
Whatever you do, don’t listen to their baloney
These guys could give you a bad day
Friends are nice, they help you a lot
Even when you’re feeling down
They are what you need to connect the dots
And they can make smile out of frown
