On holiday
with your dog
In Tirol dogs have been man’s best friend
for centuries. They’ve worked for farmers
as watchdogs and sheepdogs; they’ve been
a hunter’s indispensable companion; and
mountaineers have used them as rescue
and avalanche dogs. They are man’s faithful
companion, offering protection in everyday
life and in extreme situations on the mountain
and in the snow.
But it’s not only locals but also holidaymakers
who love bringing their four-legged
friends to the Wilder Kaiser. There’s plenty
of room here for dogs to have lots of exercise
in the fresh air and all sorts of oddities
for them to explore and sniff at.
The standard code of conduct for dogs
and their owners applies in Ellmau, Going,
Scheffau and Söll, the four villages in the
Wilder Kaiser region. This code mainly
concerns cleaning up after your dog and
keeping it on a lead in certain areas.
There’s nothing to stop you and your
dog enjoying a carefree holiday. You'll find
all the relevant information on our website.
Joint forest hike through the KaiserWelt leisure park in Scheffau
The region and all its accommodation
providers are quality tested.
With six Mountain Adventure Worlds,
lovingly designed and each with its own
history and fascination, the region’s range
of facilities available to families has no
equal in Tirol. And options on the mountain
are supplemented by a supervised outdoor
family programme five days a week.
The Wilder Kaiser region’s membership
of the Tiroler Familiennester guarantees the
highest educational standards. Families are
also particularly welcome in many of the
region’s businesses. And these businesses
are also thoroughly tested by Tiroler Familiennester,
of course. If a business meets
the quality criteria set by the Tiroler Familiennester,
it becomes a so-called “nest partner”.
The Wilder Kaiser region now has no fewer
than 17 such nest partners. And 10 of them
have been awarded the “6 gold star Familiennester
premium seal of quality” by the
Tiroler Familiennester.
A premium nest partner not only meets
the quality criteria for a family-friendly
business such as light traffic, safe location,
play area and family living units with appropriate
equipment, but also other specific
criteria such as a petting zoo, children's spa
area or adventure playground.
Our childrens' and family programme
as well as the supervisors have also been
checked this year, as every year, by the
Tiroler Familiennester and have again
been awarded the "Certified Childcare" seal
of approval. Special training sessions for
supervisors ensure that each year a new
theme for the fun and games with a strong
emphasis on outdoor activities is devised
and implemented to a high standard.
The mascot Wendelin the Water Flea will
accompany the children through the kids’
programme in 2019.
For children it’s not always the mountain
hut or summit that’s the point of a hike. It’s
more often the walk itself. This is something
you can experience on one of the
many themed trails in the region such as
the “Rübezahlschnitzweg” sculpture trail or
the “Rehbachklamm” gorge. And sometimes
a lovely bathing lake is the reward for a
hike or a great adventure playground with
views of the mountains. We also provide a
few suggested tours for families with even
younger children. The symbol "pushchair
friendly" indicates the trails where pushing
a buggy is no problem. The hikes have
been put together jointly by families and
hiking experts.
The hiking stamp book provides an extra
boost of motivation and the KaiserJet,
Hintersteiner See, Wochenbrunner Alm and
Hüttling / Moor & more hiking buses bring
everyone back safely.
The Astberg mountain in Going.
“The Kaiser's Mirror” is another name for the stunning
Astbergsee lake. It’s a place to experience the mountains
completely naturally, and not just for families.
Riding or mini golf? Both, of course!
The Wilder Kaiser region has endless options for its
guests to have a great time with their loved ones.
Going
Horseback
Riding
Even from a distance you can hear a steady
clip clop. Lots of people will already be
familiar with this sound, the clip clop of
horses gently trotting along the bridleway.
Horse lovers can enjoy going for ride in the
majestic scenery, breathing in the air in the
stables or taking riding lessons.
Minigolf
Leisure centre
Franzlhof
The Franzlhof leisure centre has the following
facilities for athletes and amateurs:
tennis courts, squash courts, mini golf
course, Pit-Pat (table mini golf) and sauna
garden. There’s also a café/restaurant with
sun terrace and children’s playground.
The Astberg experience begins in the valley.
You can decide whether to opt for the
classic way to the summit on foot or via
the Astbergbahn chairlift. When you get to
the valley station you’ll see that the pace is
much more relaxed than in other places.
The lift is considered a bit of a rarity as it’s
the only chairlift in the area going straight
from the valley up to the mountain. You get
a sense of freedom as soon as you board.
There’s no cabin to distance you from nature.
You can feel the gentle breeze in your
face and let your feet dangle. Not to forget
the breathtaking mountain panorama. A
true 3D experience – cinema at the heart
of nature. As soon as you reach the summit
your attention is drawn to the peaks
of the Kitzbühel Alps. You can look on in
wonder at the mighty Kitzbüheler Horn
and the Hahnenkamm mountains where
the intrepid professional skiers venture
down the racing piste in winter. The Wilder
Kaiser is reflected in the fresh spring water
of Astbergsee lake. There’s a favourite spot
for everyone on the many swivel loungers
and benches. This is where holidays are just
as they should be. Peaceful, relaxing and
beautiful.
The one-hour Astberg circular walk from
the mountain station/Blattlalm mountain
hut and back via the Brenner Alm mountain
hut is highly recommended.
The Blue Wonder
Marvel – Grasp – Understand
For more than ten years children and adults
have been coming to the Mountain Adventure
World at the Hexenwasser theme park
in Söll and enthusing about the carefully
staged spectacles of nature.
The motto of all six Mountain Adventure
Worlds is ‘back to the origins’. And so
Austria's longest Barefoot Path in the Hexenwasser
theme park in Söll takes you over
grass, bark mulch and rippling water to 60
stations, each offering a complete sensuous
experience. Every day from 11 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. at least 4 stations are supervised, where
you can stop and listen, marvel or think
in your bare feet. The Fire Place and the
Jumping Water are also exciting. There are
lots of things to be tried out: the feeling of
wading up to your knees through the boggy
moor, building locks, putting your head in
the humming stone or getting a note or two
out of the stone harp. In the House of Bees
you can even experience what it feels like to
be a bee in a hive.
In our walk-in cherry you discover how a
delicate cherry twig can grow from a rockhard
kernel. Or how the Salve Church came
from Russia to Söll after the First World
War. The Barefoot Path takes you through
the enchanting cherry garden, an irresistible
spot to spend a quiet moment or two.
Experience an amazing Blue Wonder
When it rains the Blue Wonder is said to
perform miracles. The water amazes you
with every step you take. Whether you’re
observing the current table or whirlpool,
reconstructing the flow of a river or are
fascinated by investigating the droplets or
sand structures formed by the water.
with the buried "Salvenriesen" giant and
past 15 stations, accompanied by the sounds of
the wind harp. The little Salvenkirchlein, the
Moor & more in Going
and Ellmau Moor.
At the foot of the Wilder Kaiser lie almost forgotten
mountain moors. Experience nature up close.
Going Going Ellmau
The restored moorland landscape links
the experience of unspoiled nature with
an exciting quiz trail in an entertaining
way. Families will find a series of fun play
stations, inviting rest areas and exciting
questions about nature along two adventure
trails. The Törfchen circuit is ideal for
younger children – pushchairs no problem!
The Rocky circuit, however, is somewhat
longer but frequently leads you over
root-covered trails. Equipped with your
own explorer's map and stamp pass (available
at the Information Offices), you start
this family experience directly from the
Hüttling hiking starting point in Going or
from the Römerhof inn in St. Johann. This
“outdoor classroom” was created with a lot
of sensitivity so that people can undertake
their own botanical field trips.
Somewhat off the beaten track, mums and
dads can kick back and enjoy nature here,
too.
There’s a real forest playground near
the Römerhof inn. It’s a place sure to make
younger and older children’s eyes light up
with adventure.
Tip:
The Törfchen circuit is also suitable for pushchairs
Hintersteiner See, the cleanest
lies hidden away at the heart
of the Wilder Kaiser nature reserve.
It’s about four kilometres
an altitude of 883 metres. This
lake, with its turquoise waters
reflecting the rocky peaks of the
Kaisergebirge mountains, exerts
The water in the lake is good
enough to drink, and there’s a
reservoir for snowmaking. “Söll
refreshes” in a variety of ways
- in terms of food and physical
fitness. And a swim in the new
lake near the cable car fits in
perfectly, of course.
Ahornsee lake is up to eleven
metres deep and locals and visitors
alike enjoy cooling off there
and having fun, on the diving
platform for example.
With a surface area of more
than 10,000 m², the
bathing lake is also used in winter
as a snow-making reservoir
for Hochsöll.
Ahornsee lake has four bathing
bridges, a diving platform,
showers, a kiosk as well as a
beach volleyball court and a
children’s play area.
l
The striking rock stacks of the Wilder Kaiser
mountains are the region’s landmark. Hiking
trails lead through mountain forests, Alpine
meadows and scree fields studded with mountain
pines to the foot of steep rock walls. The gently
rolling grass hills on the other side are much easier
to hike through thanks to the cable cars, and
boast no less spectacular views.
Guide you'll find all
the huts where you
can enjoy breakfast
on the mountain. It’s
available free in all
tourist information
Some mountain huts have developed from
mountain farms, many having been owned
by the same family for generations. The
Wilder Kaiser region has a rich mountain
hut tradition, with alpine farming having
been practised for centuries. Even today
local products like cheese are made there
or in the farm in the valley and then served
up in the mountain hut. Call in at the
Steiner-Hochalm mountain hut below the
Scheffauer mountain. Maridi and Peter,
the old landlady and landlord, serve drinks
which you can enjoy to the accompaniment
of heart-felt singing and harp music.
So it’s not only the summits which are an
attractive hiking destination: the mountain
huts along the way are also a great place to
enjoy refreshments and a welcome break.
In the Wilder Kaiser region there are also
three traditional Alpine huts belonging to
the Austrian Alpine Association: Gruttenhütte,
Gaudeamushütte and Ackerlhütte.
Hikers and mountaineers meet here of an
evening for a bite to eat and to use the hut
as a base camp for climbing tours. There
are also trails with panoramic views on the
grass-covered mountains opposite. These
trails lead to mountain huts, easy to get to
by cable car, which serve refreshments and
offer wonderful views of the Wilder Kaiser.
Seal of Approval
The Wilder Kaiser region is the first Alpine
region to be awarded the Austrian Hiking
Seal of Approval. The "Association for
Quality Assurance for Hiking in Austria"
carried out a meticulous examination of
the four villages, the accommodation and
the hiking trails. The “Magic of Walking" assessed
every aspect of the hiking experience
and the Seal of Approval confirmed that
the Wilder Kaiser region offers “the most
powerful mountain experience in the Alps"
- in scope, variety and impressions. Ellmau,
Going, Scheffau and Söll were each awarded
a certified hiking trail, with each pursuing
its own local philosophy. Söll refreshes; in
Scheffau water plays a major role; in Going
it’s tradition; and Ellmau’s attraction is its
themed hikes. The region is also part of the
102 km 2 Kaisergebirge Nature Reserve. This
extends from a location 480 metres above
sea level all the way to the Ellmauer Halt
summit, the highest in the Wilder Kaiser
region at 2,342 metres.
The Kaiserkrone
The Wilder Kaiser exerts a majestic fascination.
It sits on its throne like a mighty
monolith in its open position above the Söllandl
valley, at once disdainful and inviting,
rugged and gentle. The Kaiserkrone trail is
about 65 kilometres in length and
involves about 5,000 of both altitude gain
and loss. It takes you to the most beautiful
spots and summits with magnificent views
stretching from the Chiemsee lake to the
Grossglockner.
There are good access points to the Kaiserkrone
train from all the villages around the
Kaisergebirge mountains.
Depending on snow conditions, the multiday
tour can be walked in 3 to 5 days from
June to mid-October and you can customise
the five stages to suit you. It’s perfectly possible
to devise attractive variations to the
Kaiserkrone trail. There are lots of different
entry points and exits, many mountain huts
and options for overnight accommodation,
as well as shorter routes and summit climbs.
Discover the multi-faceted diversity of
the Kaisergebirge Nature Reserve with its
The hike from one mountain hut to another
5-day “Kaiserkrone” circular tour of the
Wilder Kaiser. The route is 33 kilometres
in length with 2,600 metres of altitude
gain (2,700 metres of altitude loss) and
takes you from the bathing lake in Going
via the Obere Regalm, Gruttenhütte and
Hintersteiner See lake and continues via the
Walleralm and Hinterschiesslingalm mountain
huts and through the Rehbachklamm
mountain huts tour is a perfect hike for a
demanding and the mountain huts are open
from May, depending on snow conditions.
The route of the Adlerweg, Tirol’s long-distance
410 km across the whole of Tirol. The first
three of the 33 stages take you through the
Kaisergebirge mountains from St. Johann
via the Gaudeamushütte mountain hut and
and surefootedness are prerequisites for
the ascent of all Kaiser summits without
exception, and some can only be reached on
secured paths. It’s the responsibility of each
individual to decide whether to venture
onto these via ferratas with or without a via
ferrata set. A helmet as protection against
rock falls, caused by chamois for example, is
absolutely essential.
In the last few years a few “genuine" via
ferratas have been built. You can and must
secure yourself throughout the climb with
a via ferrata set. The Klamml via ferrata is
especially popular with visitors and locals.
If you have little or no experience of using
a via ferrata, you should do the tour with a
local mountain guide - as part of the weekly
guest programme or individually.
For all those who want to raise their game
and tackle a summit tour or cross the ridge
to explore beyond, the mountain guide will
select the appropriate tour from hundreds
of possibilities. Because, even though it’s
well-known, there are summits in the Wilder
Kaiser region from where you can enjoy
the views all on your own.
Lovers of climbing will find plenty to
enjoy in the Wilder Kaiser region. You can
find plenty of options for beginners and
intermediates online or on page 42.
www.wilderkaiser.info/klettern
Everyone who travels the mountains is
exposed to alpine dangers. You can have
every confidence in our state-approved and
experienced mountain guides in the Wilder
Kaiser region.
Via ferratas in the
B: moderately difficult – routes in steeper
rocky terrain
C: difficult – very steep exposed terrain,
some energy-sapping passages
D: very difficult – vertical, exposed, energy-sapping
E: extremely difficult – Exposed rocky
terrain, often overhanging, few footholds,
mostly only secured with ropes,
few stepping aids.
The practice via ferrata is just north of
the Gaudeamushütte mountain hut. The
via ferrata, difficulty level B/C and about
50 metres long, lies on the southern side
in a beech forest. It takes about 20 minutes
to get to the via ferrata from the Gaudeamushütte.
You keep following the signs to
“Baumgartenköpfl” and after 15 minutes you
take a fork to the left with signs to the via
ferrata. As you enter the via ferrata at 1,380
metres you’re straight into a overhang. As
you exit you must use the marked exit area.
You must also use the via ferrata ONLY if
you have via ferrata equipment (helmet,
climbing harness, via ferrata set). This via
ferrata offers a good opportunity to become
familiar with how to manage via ferratas.
On the north side up to the Ellmauer
Halt summit 2,342 m. The starting point
is the Hans-Berger-Haus mountain hut and
the Anton-Karg-Haus (Hinterbärenbad)
is also a possible staging post. The Kaiserschützensteig
via ferrata is of moderate
difficulty (B/C and a few places 1+)
and demands a very high level of fitness.
The descent is either via the Gamsängsteig
trail into the red Rinnscharte on the marked
trail back to the Hans-Berger-Haus. Or
you can climb the Gamsängsteig via ferrata
heading towards Gruttenhütte hut and then
south to the valley back to Ellmau.
A classic amongst the via ferratas on
the Wilder Kaiser massif. The Kufstein
via ferrata takes you along the north side
of the Wilder Kaiser up to the Unteres
Gamskarköpfl (1,975 m). It is divided into
three sections: across a ledge; a very steep
middle section; and finally a very exposed
crossing leading directly to the summit
of the Unteres Gamskarköpfl. The via ferrata
(difficulty level D) is equipped with very
few iron stirrups. After climbing for another
hour you reach the Sonneck summit
(2,260 m). After a well deserved break with
a magnificent 360-degree panoramic view,
you can descend across the southern side of
the Wilder Kaiser, past the
Sonnenstein, back down into the valley to
Scheffau.
The via ferrata consists of two sections: a
lower section (difficulty level B/C); and an
upper section (difficulty level C/D). It is
possible to exit after the lower section. A
spectacular two-rope bridge connects the
two sections. Use the via ferrata only if you
have all the right equipment incl. climbing
helmet (to protect against rock falls).
Approach/Descent:
You set off from the hiking starting point
by the Wochenbrunner Alm mountain hut
(1,085 m) which you get to from Ellmau via
a toll road. From there it’s about a 1 hour
20 minute hike past the Gaudeamushütte
mountain hut to the via ferrata access point.
Completing the via ferrata climb takes
about an hour, and it’s then about five minutes
to the Gruttenhütte mountain hut.
The Jubiläumssteig trail leads from the
Gruttenhütte mountain hut through
interesting rocky landscapes to the
Kübelkar cirque (or vice versa). This
scenically very beautiful and mainly secured
trail has everything that makes a mountain
tour in the Wilder Kaiser region something
special: fantastic rocky outcrops, beautiful
vantage points and two cosy traditional
mountain shelters. The Jubiläumssteig trail
is ideal for via ferrata beginners as it poses
no great difficulty and is well secured.
Climbing in the Wilder Kaiser region
Rock climbing for everyone on one of Austria's most
Above the Gruttenhütte hut
Kreuztörltürme towers
Climbing on the Pumprisse route
Wirtskante at the Karlspitze mountain
A major change occurred on the rock
faces of the Wilder Kaiser 40 years ago. The
breakthrough to the 7th difficulty level on
the “Pumprisse” route on the Fleischbank
mountain in 1977 is generally seen as a significant
event in the history of climbing, not
only in the Wilder Kaiser region.
The Wilder Kaiser is both awe-inspiring
and inviting, on the one hand offering
protection and on other demanding respect.
Famous names of mountains such as the
Totenkirchl, Fleischbank and Predigtstuhl
inspire respect and stir the ambition to face
the physical challenge.
The impressive massif offers countless
opportunities to enjoy the rocks face-toface.
With its numerous summits and different
rock formations of towers, chimneys,
ridges or smooth steep rock faces, cracks,
dihedrals and overhangs, there’s something
for everyone.
There’s plenty to get every climber’s
heart beating faster, from easy ridges like
the well-known “Kopftörlgrat ridge” for
beginners, to enjoyable routes for keen
amateurs, and really difficult clean climbing
routes for professionals.
In addition to the classic Alpine routes
sports climbers, whether they be beginners
or professionals, can practise in the crags.
On the practice climbing rocks in the Kaiserklettergarten
near the Gaudeamushütte
mountain hut, beginners and children
can try their first climbing moves on the
rock and master the technique of securing
themselves.
The Multerkarwand crag, with its
beautiful water grooves and slab routes, and
Wilderer Kanzel crag, boasting a unique
location, offer up plenty of tours of an
intermediate difficulty level.
In contrast, the Achleiten and Schleierwasserfall
crags, the latter one of the most
beautiful climbing areas in Austria, are best
known for their routes which pose a higher
difficulty level. This is where household
names such as Alexander Huber, Markus
Bendler, Adam Ondra and Roland Hemetzberger
made their names with tours at the
11th difficulty level.
In bad weather the climbing hall
in Ellmau provides the perfect training
alternative. Its wall is 16 metres in height
has more than 100 routes and even features
two auto belays. Join a taster session as
part of the weekly programme and find out
what “climbing" is really like. Or set off an
your own tour with one of our experienced
regional mountain guides.
As inviting as the Wilder Kaiser mountain
range is, most of its 40+ summits are deceptively
hard to reach. Mountaineers and
climbers have been attracted to this mountain
and its unapproachability for centuries.
The breathtaking mountain panorama, the
intriguing rock formations and the wide
variety of differing ascent routes – via
the normal route, trails secured with steel
cables, easy ridge climbing or classic Alpine
climbing routes – all offer up the perfect
mountain experience.
Whilst most visitors hike from the valley to
the Alpine pastures and mountain huts or
to the Ellmauer Tor rock saddle, you might
want to go higher. However, if you want
to conquer the summit you’ll need plenty
of experience of mountain tours and easy
climbs. Or let a state-certified mountain
guide deal with the safety aspects and tour
planning. The trail isn’t easy, but those who
dare penetrate the Kaiser's inner sanctum
will be rewarded with spectacular sections,
endless views and, above all, an overwhelming
sense of triumph.
Pleasure hiking in the
A break and a treat in Söll
Escape the stress of everyday life, come
to rest and enjoy your environment. You
know you’ve arrived when you drink in the
scenery and enjoy the impressive views of
the Wilder Kaiser.
The pleasure of hiking is offering more
and more people the distance from their
everyday lives that they’re looking for. The
conscious experience of nature and newly
discovered love of movement are valuable
impressions and experiences that you can
take home with you. This nature experience
is often a feast for the senses. Surrounded
by the scent of the alpine herbs and meadows,
the sounds of the native wildlife, interrupted
every now and again by the gurgling
of a mountain stream – it’s not always about
challenging yourself physically – thanks to
the cable cars and lifts, everyone can get up
close and personal with these experiences.
Hiking for pleasure means, above all, enjoying
being active in a way suited to every
fitness level and age. Conscious experience
and seeing new things is writ large in pleasure
hiking. Physical enjoyment, however,
is by no means left out in the Wilder Kaiser
region. Thanks to the almost 70 mountain
huts and inns, you’re ideally placed to treat
yourself. Homemade specialities made from
local products tempt you to dine without
the guilt.
Enjoy nature and food, romantic mountain
pastures, stunning views and unique
attractions. The very best mountain cheeses
and local specialities are just waiting for
you to try them. The Wilder Kaiser region
is a place where easy-going hikes on trails
abounding with views are combined with
the enjoyment of local products.
The conscious experience of nature is writ
want to be sporty or ascend and descend
in a more gentle way. The view from the
gondola also provides a different panorama
of the unique Wilder Kaiser landscape.
Stone Circle
Just 30 minutes above the Wochenbrunner
Alm hut lies the Ellmau Stone Circle, a natural
self-contained energy field in the form
of a giant mandala. Sensitive people usually
find the right stone for themselves intuitively,
sit down on it and begin to enjoy and
meditate as if it were the most natural thing
in the world. But even less experienced visitors
can feel the power of the stones and the
Wilder Kaiser, and some of them have even
found that the stone circle circular walk
has helped them to clarify their thoughts
and given them energy. Opening yourself
up to this extraordinary stone circle first
and foremost means leaving the everyday
behind whilst surrounded by nature.
Kneipp circuit
Scheffau was the first Kneipp village in
Tirol to implement the teachings of Sebastian
Kneipp, a Bavarian pastor and medical
practitioner, on a unique circular trail.
From the end of May to the middle of October,
next to the idyllic church square with
its Kneipp pool, lawns and stone seats, its
Kneipp circuit takes you through the forest
below the village to surprising, refreshing
and relaxing discoveries.
At the beginning of the walk on the barefoot
path the Kneipp circuit activates your
foot reflex zones with pebbles, stones and
mulch. You then come to the open-air inhalatorium
which gently opens your airways.
The vein steps stimulate your circulation;
the comfortable wooden loungers at the
meditation area encourage you to pause and
relax; and the eagle labyrinth offers new
Going arts and crafts market
Old traditions are brought back to life at the
village evenings and the arts and crafts market.
Markets where passing on knowledge is
the top priority, rather than sales. Almost-forgotten
professions and vocations,
rediscovered: pile striking, lace making,
hand weaving and basket weaving.
Neither are the pleasures of eating neglected
here. Regional products, often made
in-house and prepared using old family
recipes, are cooked right in front of the
visitors’ eyes.
Music is as much a part of Tirol as its
mountains. Convivial meetings feature
traditional sounds from harps, dulcimers
and accordions as well as modern influences.
Traditional costume and Schuhplattler
dance groups demonstrate the region’s
traditional dances. As dusk falls, the local
brass bands arrive and show everyone that
brass band music is not boring at all.
Tip:
Leave your car behind and simply take
Village evenings
The weekly summer evenings in the Wilder
Kaiser region are a tradition. The Ellmau
Summer Night offers live music and a number
of stalls to explore. At the Söll Z’sammkemma
(get-together) event, it’s all about
good food and traditional music. And at the
Scheffau Village Evening it’s the state brass
band and then a live band that set the tone.
GOING live provides excellent outdoor
entertainment with traditional music, but
also some from the past few years.
On five Friday evenings in the summer it
forms the natural backdrop for the artisan
market where almost forgotten craftsmanship
comes to life again. Artists and farmers
set up their stalls and you can listen to folk
music, learn about all sorts of handicraft
and taste some local specialties.
Lots of people have a close association
with the Alpine pastures: the herdsman,
the forester, the hunter and the hiker.
Agriculture is the source of Söll's prosperity
today. For the farmers, the Alpine
pastures have a special meaning because, although
everything up here is steeper, more
barren and more difficult than in the valley,
the farmers know that life in the mountains
is good not only for their spiritual life. The
people of Söll have their roots in the pastures,
on the mountain.
Alpine pasture living is a part of Söll's
art and culture. Passionate people come
together and present images, read texts
or demonstrate crafts, allowing people to
The Ellmau Local History Museum
“Beim Wegmacher” clearly documents the
village way of life and also Tirolean history
of the last centuries. Originally a house for
miners in the 16th century, it was later used
as a home and workplace for a wainwright,
a master weaver and finally a road repairer.
This turned this simple house into a home
for various artisans.
The son of the road repairer converted
it into the building we see today in 1898.
The museum’s rooms are faithfully decorated
to old rural customs. Together with
the artisans’ and farmers’ tools plus a rich
collection of items from everyday life, they
provide a comprehensive insight into tradition
and customs.
The Ellmau Local History Museum is
Going, with the church and the exteriors of
Hintersteiner See lake, which provides a
perfect natural backdrop.
You can visit the most beautiful locations of
the series on various hikes, including Going
Magnificent Wilder Kaiser autumn.
Experience nature and recharge your batteries. Endless
horizons, colourful landscapes, pleasant temperatures
and great deals – so many good reasons to take an
autumn holiday to the Wilder Kaiser.
Working where others go on holiday.
Work and leisure can be perfectly combined in the Wilder
Kaiser region: The range of full and part-time jobs as well
as seasonal and year-round jobs is large. Maybe there’s
something for you here, too?
Autumn blaze of colour.
Autumn sees pleasantly cool yet still warm
temperatures with long periods of good
weather. This means that getting out and
about in the mountains is of course very
easy and autumn can safely be called the
highlight of the hiking year. The Wilder
Kaiser mountain huts and cable cars are
open until the end of October.
There are some especially interesting offers
for families during the Family Autumn
Weeks from 29 September to the end of
October. All the cable cars and their adven-
ture worlds, plus the KaiserBad Ellmau are
free to use for children up to 15 years of age.
(When purchasing a 3-day hiking pass for
adults).
And there’s always something going on
elsewhere: Whether it's the Almabtrieb
cattle returning, the Alpine Autumn of
Music, the Brass Band Festival or the
Bergdoktor weeks with the big Bergdoktor
Show in October – autumn means
festivals.
And, of course, let’s not forget about the
food with delicacies from the Tirolean
cuisine. Like the Gastronomy
Weeks in Scheffau.
Après-ski
A day’s skiing is far from over in when the
the Wilder Kaiser. There’s plenty of revelling
to be had in the ski huts, the après-ski
bars near the valley stations and in the
centres of the villages of the Kaiser region,
often with live music!
Unforgettable moments at night too
Night skiing
In the evening, Hochsöll – the white arena
at the foot of the Hohe Salve mountain –
can be seen lit up from afar. From Wednesday
to Saturday, 10 km of irresistible,
freshly groomed slopes at the largest night
skiing area in Tirol invite you to carve turns
in the floodlit snow. Don’t miss out on
enjoying unforgettable hours of skiing and
