New Plant Development
Goal Oriented
In addition to the expectation of better garden and
production plants, each breeding project is approached with
genus specific goals. By honing specific characteristics
through multiple generations of breeding, we are always
able to find new and unique introductions.
80 Working Genera
While we may be working with a whopping 80 different
genera of plants, sequenced and concurrent trialing
throughout the entire year allow our team to manage a
large number of breeding projects. Working within so many
genera allows us to continue to improve the quality and
diversity of our catalog.
In Ground Trials
While not every perennial goes through the same level of in
ground trials, most are observed for a minimum of 3 years to
ensure a consistent, quality plant. New selections are trialed
alongside current market varieties to ensure difference and
excellence by comparison.
Production Trials
We consider a perennial worthy of introduction after is has
proven itself a quality grower in the landscape, for us, and
for our customers. Our trials department grows out each
variety to the most popular container size for that genus,
comparing its performance with our expectations for a
saleable product.
Final Selection
We take great pride in the steps a plant must go through
in order to merit introduction. This page only represents

trials, market research, or other considerations each variety
