Use your smartphone to take stunning wildlife photographs with professional photographer Jeanette. If you own a smartphone, then you own a camera, and if you own a camera, you have the ability to take amazing photos. Walk around the Museum’s wooded area and collect your materials to create a wind chime. Sessions are hands-on and sensory to encourage child led exploration and natural play. Activities may include water play, mud kitchen time, bug hunting, bird spotting, pond dipping, games, crafts, storytelling and more. Summer is here, you catch your kids in the perfect moment and you rush to retrieve your camera, but then they see the camera and start posing, and the moments lost. What do you do? Dylan and Zee are creative outdoor photographers who have compiled their top tips on how to up your photography game with little ones: • Be sure that your child is well-rested and happy! Don’t photograph them when it’s a good time for you, photograph them when it’s a good time for them. • No cheese or sausages! Unless you want the stinky “Cheese” pics where the kids look like a strangely happy deer in headlights, you will want to be capturing your child’s natural joyful expressions. • Clothing shouldn’t be distracting. Lean towards simple clothes, soft tones that don’t take the attention away from your child. • If you want to capture the world from their perspective, be prepared to get down and dirty. • Be patient, when things aren’t working, laugh and keep shooting. Eventually that tide is going to roll, and you’ll be prepare. Children have a shoot limit of 15-20 minutes. Make the most of their capacity and know when to stop and be present! • Explore the outdoors and natural lighting. Hertfordshire has so much to offer, there are hidden gems on the fringes of every town! Take a stroll off the beaten path and discover rolling fields, wild flowers, and dewy forests. Nature often brings out a natural curiosity and calmness in children. Use that! • Still family portraits are great, but really magical photos are often the product of spontaneity. Use the environment around you to create action.
