MARGO RAY<br />

Margo Ray is a visual artist who engages in printmaking, collage, and install<strong>at</strong>ion. She holds an MFA<br />

from Concordia University in Montrèal, Quebec and a BA in Studio <strong>Arts</strong> from University of Hawai‘i, Hilo.<br />

She was raised on Hawai‘i Island and has had the opportunity to travel intern<strong>at</strong>ionally throughout her life,<br />

exposing her to art making practices outside of the Western tradition. Her works have been exhibited in<br />

venues such as <strong>Hui</strong> No‘eau, Second Street Gallery (Charlottesville, VA), The Honolulu Museum of Art <strong>at</strong><br />

First Hawaiian <strong>Center</strong> (Honolulu, HI), Parisian Laundry (Montrèal, QC) and most recently <strong>at</strong> The Lancaster<br />

Contemporary Mixed Media Collage Techniques<br />

S<strong>at</strong>urday & Sunday, 2 days<br />

November 16 & 17 / 10:00 am – 4:00 pm<br />

Bring ideas and images th<strong>at</strong> inspire and speak to you! In this workshop, we will work on canvas and<br />

paper, learning collage techniques, layering transparent and textured papers, stenciling, and incorpor<strong>at</strong>ing<br />

photographic and digitally gener<strong>at</strong>ed images. M<strong>at</strong>erials will include acrylic m<strong>at</strong>te medium, gouache paint,<br />

various papers to experiment with layering, and ink jet print images on kozo paper. By the end of the<br />

workshop, you will have gained a gre<strong>at</strong>er understanding of collage techniques and how to successfully<br />

combine paper with canvas and how to apply these techniques to future art projects in your home studio.<br />

JENNIFER ROBERTS ALMODOVA<br />

Half Moon Bay, California<br />

December 7 – 9<br />

Jennifer Roberts Almodova is a painter, sculptor, and ceramic artist with<br />

thirty years of experience teaching both priv<strong>at</strong>e students and <strong>at</strong> the university<br />

level. She is best recognized for her w<strong>at</strong>ercolor painting and her sign<strong>at</strong>ure<br />

style of evoc<strong>at</strong>ive color, subtle luminosity, and masterful brushwork. She is a<br />

full-time faculty member of the Fine Art Department <strong>at</strong> the Academy of Art<br />

University in San Francisco. Jennifer exhibits and sells intern<strong>at</strong>ionally and her<br />

work is fe<strong>at</strong>ured in collections across the United St<strong>at</strong>es, Europe, and Asia.<br />

Flowers in the Round:<br />

Designing and Painting Tropical Wre<strong>at</strong>hs in W<strong>at</strong>ercolor<br />

S<strong>at</strong>urday, 1 day<br />

December 7 / 10:00 am – 4:00 pm<br />

Inspired by the lei po‘o, haku, or Hawaiian head lei, you’ll design and paint<br />

your very own flower wre<strong>at</strong>h, derived from a single blossom and bud. This<br />

class will give you the skills to cre<strong>at</strong>e a beautiful, festive, and Hawai‘i-inspired<br />

tropical wre<strong>at</strong>h w<strong>at</strong>ercolor painting. Bring your favorite flowers, foliage,<br />

seeds, shells, or fe<strong>at</strong>hers to class (or some will be provided for you). Flower<br />

and object meanings, symbolism, composition, and color schemes will also<br />

be explored. While students may not finish their entire painting during class,<br />

everyone will be ready to keep painting on their own. Prerequisite: Basic<br />

drawing skills<br />
