Pinch, Coil, & Slab-building with Clay<br />

(No class on September 18) / 5:00 – 8:00 pm<br />

Learn to pinch, coil, and slab-build with clay! These<br />

techniques will allow you to make every conceivable<br />

shape and size, so the possibilities are unlimited! You<br />

can even make sophistic<strong>at</strong>ed and large pottery and<br />

sculpture. We will make mugs, vases, boxes, bowls,<br />

and anything else you can imagine. Beginners are<br />

welcome and experienced students can take their<br />

skills to a new level with challenging projects like<br />

teapots.<br />

Beginning Wheel Throwing <strong>—</strong> Level 1<br />

Designed for those with no prior experience or who<br />

want to review the basics, this class will impart the<br />

basic techniques of wheel throwing, including clay<br />

prepar<strong>at</strong>ion, centering, throwing vertical and fl<strong>at</strong><br />

forms, and trimming. Students will be sure to enjoy<br />

the hands-on experience of transforming clay into<br />

functional objects of inspir<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Ceramics Guided Open Studio<br />

<strong>—</strong> Level 2+<br />

Thursdays, 8 weeks<br />

October 3 – November 21 / 6:00 – 9:00 pm<br />

If you’ve ever wished for more guidance without<br />

having to work on a specific class assignment,<br />

this is the program for you! Our expert<br />

Teaching Artist Bob Flint will be available for<br />

individualized assistance<strong>—</strong>answering questions<br />

and troubleshooting problems. This class is one<br />

step above Open Studio (no instruction) while<br />

allowing for a bit more freedom than the <strong>Hui</strong>’s<br />

more structured classes. Prerequisite: Beginning<br />

Ceramics or equivalent experience<br />

Mixing & Working with Slips <strong>—</strong><br />

Level 2<br />

Deb Zaleski<br />

Wednesdays, 6 weeks<br />

October 30 – December 11<br />

(No class on November 27)<br />

9:00 am – 12:00 pm<br />

Learn how to mix slips from base mineral recipes,<br />

add various colorants, and apply to your ceramic<br />

ware. Students will work with white clay, may<br />

either throw or hand build, and then utilize the<br />

slips we mix for various surface decor<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

techniques, such as sgraffito, mishima (inlay),<br />

and slip painted design applic<strong>at</strong>ion. If you enjoy<br />

painting, drawing, and carving on your ware, this<br />

class is for you! Prerequisite: Beginning Ceramics<br />

or equivalent experience<br />

Tuition: $175 ($219 nonmember)<br />
