Pinch, Coil, & Slab-building with Clay

Learn to pinch, coil, and slab-build with clay! These
techniques will allow you to make every conceivable
shape and size, so the possibilities are unlimited! You
can even make sophisticated and large pottery and
sculpture. We will make mugs, vases, boxes, bowls,
and anything else you can imagine. Beginners are
welcome and experienced students can take their
skills to a new level with challenging projects like
teapots.

Beginning Wheel Throwing — Level 1

September 10 – October 29 / 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

October 28 – December 16 / 6:00 – 9:00 pm
Designed for those with no prior experience or who
want to review the basics, this class will impart the
basic techniques of wheel throwing, including clay
preparation, centering, throwing vertical and flat
forms, and trimming. Students will be sure to enjoy
the hands-on experience of transforming clay into
functional objects of inspiration.

Ceramics Guided Open Studio

October 3 – November 21 / 6:00 – 9:00 pm
If you’ve ever wished for more guidance without
having to work on a specific class assignment,
this is the program for you! Our expert
Teaching Artist Bob Flint will be available for
individualized assistance—answering questions
and troubleshooting problems. This class is one
step above Open Studio (no instruction) while
allowing for a bit more freedom than the Hui’s
more structured classes. Prerequisite: Beginning
Ceramics or equivalent experience

Mixing & Working with Slips —
Level 2
Deb Zaleski
Wednesdays, 6 weeks
October 30 – December 11
(No class on November 27)
9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Learn how to mix slips from base mineral recipes,
add various colorants, and apply to your ceramic
ware. Students will work with white clay, may
either throw or hand build, and then utilize the
slips we mix for various surface decoration
techniques, such as sgraffito, mishima (inlay),
and slip painted design application. If you enjoy
painting, drawing, and carving on your ware, this
class is for you! Prerequisite: Beginning Ceramics
or equivalent experience
