Realistic Drawing for Timid Beginners:<br />

Everyone can learn to draw realistically! Students will learn to draw through guided<br />

step-by-step instructions, training their eyes to understand the basic elements of<br />

shape and transl<strong>at</strong>e th<strong>at</strong> inform<strong>at</strong>ion onto paper. Students will gain skills in a noncompetitive<br />

classroom environment with lots of supportive instruction and produce<br />

a realistic drawing to take home. M<strong>at</strong>erials will include pencil, pen, and colored<br />

pencil. Julia focuses on a different subject each session, so both new and returning<br />

students will enjoy her class.<br />

Making Pastels Glow <strong>—</strong> Level 1+<br />

October 19 / 10:00 am – 4:00 pm<br />

Find out how to make your paintings glow! This<br />

workshop is designed to take advantage of the<br />

fluidity of a wet underpainting and the texture<br />

of pastel. Students will learn to cre<strong>at</strong>e a vibrant<br />

value underpainting and then fine-tune their work<br />

with pastels<strong>—</strong>without making mud! Christine<br />

will demonstr<strong>at</strong>e techniques for applying a wet<br />

underpainting on a piece of white Pastelm<strong>at</strong> pastel<br />

paper and will then show how to use soft pastels,<br />

allowing some of the color from the underpainting<br />

to be visible through the pastel.<br />

Discover the Qualities of W<strong>at</strong>ercolor<br />

<strong>—</strong> Level 1<br />

November 2 & 3 / 10:00 am – 4:00 pm<br />

Take the mystery out of w<strong>at</strong>ercolor and learn the basic<br />

techniques and m<strong>at</strong>erials you’ll need to cre<strong>at</strong>e lightfilled<br />

w<strong>at</strong>ercolor paintings th<strong>at</strong> will not turn to mud.<br />

An emphasis on color mixing, value, technique, and<br />

demonstr<strong>at</strong>ion will show students how to transform<br />

the ordinary into the bre<strong>at</strong>htaking. This basic skills<br />

class will be both inform<strong>at</strong>ive and fun-filled!<br />
