visual arts education
organization located in
beautiful Upcountry Maui.
Since 1934, Hui No‘eau
has provided an accessible
space for the community to
experience and enjoy the visual arts. Throughout
the year, the Hui hosts art classes for adults and
children, artist lectures, fine art exhibitions, events,
tours, and educational outreach programs.
Working artist studios are nestled across the
grounds and a gallery shop featuring artwork
created by Hui members is located in the main
house. As a community-based organization, we
thank you for helping us continue our mission of
unlocking creativity through exceptional
visual arts education and enhancing this
endeavor through the preservation of the
historic Kaluanui Estate.

letter from the director
It has been an incredible year for Hui No‘eau!
As we head into our final session of classes for
2019 and look towards the future, all of us at
the Hui are overwhelmed with gratitude for our
donors, members, students, artists, and the
beautiful Kaluanui Estate that we call home. I am
so inspired by the vibrant community of artists
who take classes here, work in our open studios,
and exhibit their work in our gallery and gift shop.
Together, we have created such a unique haven for creativity on
Maui. There’s nowhere else quite like the Hui!
This summer, over nine weeks of art camps, the Hui gave our
youngest artists a creative place to play, learn, discover, and
develop their skills and artistry. This immersive arts experience is
such a special experience for our keiki and sends them back to
school buzzing with artistic energy and enthusiasm. With thanks to
our generous supporters, the Hui continues to provide inspiring art
programs for preschoolers through teens throughout the school year
(pages 19-20). Field trips, after-school classes, art camps, and the
Hui’s amazing Na Keiki No‘eau program that reaches kids at their
local public schools, all support the ongoing creative development
of our Maui Youth.
Heading into the season of giving, I wish to send my greatest
appreciation to the wonderful community of supporters who
donated to Hui No‘eau in 2018 (pages 23-25). As a nonprofit,
the Hui’s arts education programs, exhibitions, and many activities
are all made possible through your contributions. Thank you for
recognizing the vital importance of the visual arts to the overall
vibrancy and wellbeing of our community.
It is incredible to remember that nearly 15 years ago the Kaluanui
Estate was almost sold to a private owner. In 2005, the community
rallied to our side to save Kaluanui and the Hui, but after we
overcame that hurdle, new challenges immerged. It is only through
the generosity of donors like you that the Hui still exists today. We
cannot thank our community enough for championing the visual
arts and we humbly ask for your continued support in 2019 (page
26). From giving students access to art classes and supplies to
maintaining our beautiful gallery and historic estate for the public to
enjoy, every gift truly has an impact on how we serve the community
and achieve our mission.

Family Day 2019: Plants & Crafts
Saturday, October 12 / 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Join us at the historic Kaluanui Estate for a familyfriendly
day of art and learning! Explore all of the
Hui’s art studios, create your own art project, watch
a live artist demo, shop local plants & crafts, and eat
delicious food from local vendors! Family Day will
also celebrate the incredible artwork featured in the
Malama Wao Akua Exhibition. The event is open to the
public with free admission.
