Residential Life and Housing Contact: Swanson Hall, 136 402.280.2717 living@creighton.edu creighton.edu/living Department of Residential Life Residential Experience Each phase of living on campus at Creighton involves asking students intentional questions about themselves, their relationship to others and how to be impactful leaders within their community. Hall Staff Residential student staff are among the top student leaders on campus. These juniors and seniors live in the halls to interact with, mentor and care for freshmen and sophomore students. Additionally, each residence hall is supervised by a live-in student affairs professional. Each professional has earned a master’s degree and has experience and extensive training in the field. Living Learning Communities The Freshmen Leadership Program (FLP) focuses on challenging students to grow as leaders, to understand what leadership means to them and to implement leadership skills learned across campus and the city. The Honors Community provides students a challenging and innovative academic alternative to Creighton’s Magis Core, with individualized attention from top faculty mentors. The Cortina Living-Learning Community prepares students to connect their passion for social justice with their academic and future goals by challenging them to investigate social inequalities and difficult realities. Inter Residence Hall Government The Inter Residence Hall Government (IRHG) is the voice for all students living on campus. IRHG provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable leadership experience by advocating for change, putting on events for the community, and writing legislation for facilities or policy changes. Academic Success Centers Located in each first year residence hall, Academic Success Centers provide a permanent home base for Academic Success Peer Mentors, senior students dedicated to helping first year-students make a smooth transition to Creighton academics. Academic Success Peer Mentors know how to address the stresses of first-year living because they learned to navigate it themselves. They’re passionate about supporting students. Resources offered include schedule making, study habits, tutoring, programming and much more. 22
Housing and Auxiliary Services Creating Excellent Environments When you live on campus, your Creighton experience becomes more than an academic adventure. You set yourself on a path for personal growth, making invaluable connections and acquiring leadership skills. Housing and Auxiliary Services enhances the student experience by creating quality environments—from residence halls to student centers—for all of these interactions. Housing assignments for freshman, sophomores and upperclassmen are coordinated by Housing and Auxiliary Services, and the Housing and Auxiliary Services team also processes more than 10,000 event requests per year, working with student organizations and campus partners to make sure Creighton’s spaces are set up for memorable and impactful events. Freshman Residence Halls Deglman Hall Deglman Hall is known for building community in its spacious basement recreation area. •• Co-ed freshman hall •• 5 resident floors •• Double rooms/community bathrooms •• Ground floor community room with full kitchen •• Community Partner: Nelson Mandela Elementary Kiewit Hall Kiewit Hall is the largest residence hall on campus. •• Co-ed freshman hall •• Home to the Freshman Leadership Program (FLP) •• 8 resident floors with kitchens and common spaces •• Double rooms/community bathrooms •• Community Partner: Open Door Mission Gallagher Hall Gallagher Hall is known for having one of the closest-knit communities on campus. •• Co-ed freshman hall •• 4 resident floors •• 1st floor community kitchen and living space •• Double rooms/community bathrooms •• Community Partner: Charles E. Lakin Resource Center Swanson Hall Swanson Hall is located in the heart of campus. •• Co-ed freshman/sophomore hall •• Home of the Freshman Honors Scholars Community •• 8 resident floors with kitchens and common spaces •• 4-person suites; 2 per room, 1 adjoining bathroom •• Community Partner: Siena/Francis House 23
