NEWS ENERGY +WOMEN: THE UPCOMING CHALLENGES Gender equity and women positioning in the industry have risen to the top of the energy agenda in recent times. The Ministry of Energy has worked since last year in the “Energy +Women” Technical Gender Roundtable, where ACERA has held an active role. As a result of this roundtable’s work a diagnosis of the sector was developed showing the large gap between men and women both in participation, ¡ÉSTA especially ES LA PRIMERA in high positions, PLANTAand salaries, among others. In connection with the above, the Ministry, through the Gender Roundtable, prepared an Action Plan, including different guidelines to be implemented for each gap by the industry. With the purpose of generating a forum for dialogue, ACERA carried out a workshop where the Ministry could present the initial proposal of the Plan to its member companies, to have their vision on this matter, and encourage them to join the plan. ACERA’s workshop was a prelude to the event carried out on July 29 by the Ministry of Energy with RedEG – Red de Empresas por la Equidad de Género, where the progress and improvements to the plan were assessed, and the official signing of accession by the involved industry associations and companies -including ACERA- with the presence of the Minister of Energy, Juan Carlos Jobet. RENEWABLE ENERGIES IN THE REGION: ACERA’S DIRECTORS TRAVEL TO URUGUAY AND PERU ACERA has made constant efforts to strengthen the relationship among the countries of the region and to position renewable energies generation throughout Latin America. In this context, two of its directors, Marta Alonso and Paola Hartung, travelled on behalf of the Association to Peru and Uruguay, respectively. Paola Hartung took part in the Latin American Congress AUDER, organized by the Uruguayan Association of Renewable Energies, referring precisely to regional integration, where she shared the panel with representatives from Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. She commented that “the event showed the management experiences concerning the high renewable penetration in Uruguay and Brazil, as well as the incipient growth of renewable energies in Argentina. As ACERA, we referred to the renewable boom in Chile, the transformation of the regulatory frame, and a diagnosis of the country’s regional integration: challenges, minimum conditions, and the role of the state and private sector in this kind of technical-economical decisions”. Marta Alonso, in turn, took part in the 8th Conference of Renewable Energies Peru 2019, where she presented the Chilean landscape of renewable energies, sharing space with representatives from Colombia and Argentina. “It is always an honor to take part in such high-level conferences, especially when Chile is presented as an example to be followed and a renewable leader in the region. Peru is one of the countries with more renewable resources in the world, with tremendous potential and, therefore, the urgent challenge of opening the required regulatory spaces so that renewable energies can compete under the same conditions that the other technologies”, she stated.
NEWS ACERA SIGNS AN ALLIANCE WITH PERU TO PROMOTE RENEWABLE ENERGIES The main objective of the agreement between the Peruvian Association of Renewable Energies (SPR) and ACERA is to establish a permanent collaboration between both entities through the exchange of information and experiences, in addition to the development of joint activities aimed at making viable the execution of various projects and initiatives promoting the development of renewable energies and ¡ÉSTA storage ES systems, LA PRIMERA both in Peru PLANTA and in Chile. GEOTÉRMICA DE SUDAMÉRICA! “We are very glad and satisfied by establishing this important strategic alliance, since we agree on the urgent need of developing and promoting the use of non-conventional renewable energy resources, abundant in Peru and Chile, which must be taken advantage of for the benefit of our citizens and the environment. This is also a milestone in Latin America, since it is the first alliance of this kind in the region”, declared Brendan Oviedo, President of the Peruvian Association of Renewable Energies. José Ignacio Escobar, ACERA President, added that “for some time now we have been fostering a more active and deep work between the different renewable associations of the region, and this collaboration agreement with Peru is a very important first step. In order to achieve the worldwide goal against global warming and the effects of climate change, energy transition must be transversal”. The SPR’s objective is to promote the development of electric energy generation in Peru from renewable sources, which is in line with ACERA’s purpose in Chile. This collaboration agreement is expected to be the first of many others to achieve a total energy transition in the region.
