Page 24 — 2019 S.D. State Fair PLAINSMAN See what’s new at the Midway Roadhouse The Midway Roadhouse is the fair’s newest entertainment venue. By day, the Midway Roadhouse serves as an area for fairgoers to sit down and enjoy the fair, whether it’s the company, fair food or entertainment. During the day fairgoers can enjoy everything from acoustic musicians to jugglers. By night, it transforms into an outdoor concert area, providing a fun beer garden atmosphere, with bands performing Friday-Sunday. The Wild Flowers Thursday, Aug. 29 and Monday, Sept. 2 Noon, 1, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. The Wild Flowers (The Judds of South Dakota!) are a Mother and Daughter trio bringing you a wide variety of musical entertainment. They enjoy singing in the community throughout the year and coming to the State fair to entertain. They sing everything from Country to Christian! On the Run featuring Kaila Dakota Thursday, Aug 29 7 and 10 p.m. Kaila Dakota, the singer and performer from South Dakota and previous American Idol contestant joins Bryan Michael, the California-based songwriter and producer to make Nashville based duo, On The Run. Kaila comes from a small town, but has a BIG voice! As well as making it to Hollywood for the Emmy nominated competition show, American Idol, she has won numerous singing competitions including Dakota Star. Deach Koch Friday, Aug 30 Noon, 2:30 and 7 p.m. Deach Koch is a singer-songwriter who hails from the big city of Gann Valley, South Dakota. Deach has played at numerous venues throughout South Dakota, entertaining the crowd with his smooth voice and original music as well as covers spanning a wide array of music and styles. Brandon Jones Band Friday, Aug. 30 10 p.m. Brandon Jones is a fun, exciting entertainer with powerful vocals and great group of musicians backing him. As a group they like to have fun bouncing around different genres of music, while still making everything seem a little country. Predominately a country/rock cover band with their own originals sprinkled in, they love to shock you with crazy covers you wouldn’t expect from a big bearded guy. Matthew James Saturday, Aug. 31 Noon, 3 and 7 p.m. It all started with a $50 pawnshop guitar. Matthew James is a country music artist from small town Northern Minnesota. Eclipse Saturday, Aug 31 10 p.m. Eclipse is a longtime working band, playing shows throughout the Midwest over the years. The band and crew bring live Rock & Roll and Country Rock Music with a party atmosphere everywhere they go. Weston Frank Sunday, Sep 1 3, 5 and 7 p.m. 2011 brought change to this once young and strictly cover band musician. A stint of hard living and drinking got Weston kicked out of his own cover band. Determined to rise above and find purpose to music, and with a lot of help from his then girlfriend, now wife Jill, Weston has become a staple in South Dakota Country music. Sobriety, hard work, small doses of humor and a little faith have taken him a long way. Greg Hanson & the Backroads Sunday, Sept. 1 10 p.m. Greg Hanson & the Backroads have shared the stage with Tracy Lawrence, Carrie Underwood, Ronnie Milsap, Blake Shelton, Steve Holy and more. Greg Hanson & the Backroads always put on a memorable show and the crowd always has a great time. It all started in Wilmot, SD, where Greg was raised on the family farm. While in his teens, Greg became determined to make singing his career and spent the next eight years competing in numerous talent contests throughout the Midwest. His first break came in 2001, when Greg performed in Branson, Missouri, and was offered a permanent spot on the Doug Gabriel Show. Greg moved to Branson and performed there for 10 months while he recorded his debut album “I’m the New Man.” Through a mutual friend, Greg was introduced to Minnesota native Dennis Morgan, who now resides in Nashville, Tennessee. Morgan, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, has written more than 20 number one hits for artists like Faith Hill, Reba, Ronnie Milsap, Rod Stewart and many others. Believing in Greg’s traditional, yet, unique vocals, the two worked together to record Greg’s second album, “I Owe You One.” One of Greg’s favorite places to play at is the South Dakota State Fair. Over the years, he has enjoyed singing on the 4-H stage, performing with Sherwin Linton and the Cotton Kings, the Freedom Stage and even opening for Chely Wright at the Grandstand.
