As we enter the New Year of 5780, Sisterhood has already begun its year with Tikkun Olam, fundraising and fun. By now, you have received your membership forms, New Year’s Greetings and Torah Fund information with our Chesed theme. Chesed means kindness, which has many meanings. Kindness to ourselves and others, kindness through giving tzedakah and kindness through mitzvot. All are welcome to participate in our first fun activity: “Karaoke and Kocktails” on Tuesday, September 17th at 7:30 pm in the Nacron Chapel. Message from our Sisterhood School of Rabbinic Studies (Los Angeles), Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies (Jerusalem), Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano (Buenos Aires) and Zacharias Frankel College (Germany). For donations of $180 and above, a specially designed pin is given as a gift. Checks should be made out to Torah Fund. You will be seeing our donors proudly wearing our Torah Fund pins, which have the Hebrew word Chesed. If you are interested in learning more about Torah Fund and love learning from the Torah, the Sherry Sukel Torah Study Day will be sponsored by WLCJ FL Region in November. Our first mitzvah was presenting mezuzot to the ECA, which were placed within the children’s reach, to make our tradition of kissing the mezuzah more accessible. Throughout the year, Sisterhood is putting together “Period Packs” for girls, where we are collecting sanitary pads, hand sanitizer and underwear in different sizes: 6, 8 10,12 and 14. We are delivering these to Highland Oaks Middle School, Waterways K-8, Ojus K-8 and Maddie Ives Middle School. Sisterhood’s second collection is for pull tabs off of soda cans, beer cans, and energy drinks for the National Jewish Health Hospital in Denver, Colorado. NJH is the only facility in the world dedicated exclusively to groundbreaking medical research and treatment of patients of all ages with respiratory, cardiac and immune related disorders. Torah Fund is in full swing where Sisterhood, which is a part of Women’s League for Conservative Judaism (WLCJ), is raising funds which go toward helping to support future rabbis, cantors and educators at the following: Jewish Theological Seminary (NY), Ziegler We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming Sisterhood events such as: Paid up Membership, Sisterhood Shabbat and Game Day. We are excited to bring back the Women’s Seder, with a twist! These activities can be found in the Beth Torah Calendar. Back by popular demand, the Wellness program along with Lunch and Learn will be held in the near future. You will be able to find our schedule in the Beth Torah Program Guide.
