Born to be kind
You can tell when your baby is feeling
happy, sad, sleepy or hungry, but did you know
that from as young as six months old, your little
one can also feel more complex emotions, such
as empathy? In a recent study * , a group of fiveto
nine-month-old babies were shown a video
of two shapes, with one shape hitting and
hurting the other. When the babies were given
the same shapes to play
with, the majority of
the babies picked
up the shape
that had
shown
distress,
revealing
empathy
towards
it. How sweet
is that?
