Deputy principal steps up<br />

acting principal at PegasusBay<br />
School until anew principal is<br />
appointed next year, following<br />
the retirement of founding<br />
principal Roger Hornblow.<br />
‘‘It’s always exciting times<br />
when youput someone new in<br />
the role,but it’s acreditto<br />
Roger that he left the school on<br />
ahigh,’’hesays.<br />
Mr Hornblow had been<br />
principal at PegasusBay<br />
School since it opened in May<br />
2014, havingbeen appointed<br />
principal at the school’s<br />
predecessor, Waikuku School,<br />
in 2008.<br />
Before retiring, Mr<br />
Hornblowreceived aletter<br />
from Education Minister Chris<br />
Hipkins‘‘congratulating us on<br />
our ERO (Education Review<br />
Office) report’’, Mr Kellysays.<br />
‘‘It’s arare occasion for a<br />
principal to leave on top of his<br />
game. It doesn’t happen very<br />
often to receive aletter from<br />
the Minister after an ERO<br />
reporthas beencompleted, so<br />
it was areal credittoget that<br />
before he left.<br />

to fill,but it’s an exciting<br />
opportunityfor anew<br />
principal to takeonahighly<br />
innovative school,’’ saysMr<br />
Kelly, who is hopingtostay in<br />
therole next year.<br />

to acommunity roleinthe<br />
Hurunuidistrict.<br />
Mr Kelly joined the staff at<br />
Waikuku School just before the<br />
move to Pegasus Bay.<br />

when he was fulfillinghis<br />
duties as Kahui Ako<br />
(communityoflearning) lead<br />
principal, for schoolsinthe<br />
Kaiapoi area.<br />

some of his colleagues due to<br />
attend an Apple Distinguished<br />
Schools conferenceinSydney.<br />
‘‘It’s pretty exciting and we<br />
will be delivering aworkshop<br />
around our experiential<br />
learningpractices and how we<br />
use IT in school.<br />
‘‘It’s agreat opportunity to<br />
tell our story of whatwedoon<br />
an international stage.’’<br />
Pegasus Bay School has a<br />
busy end to this term,with an<br />
XFactor competition final<br />
beingheld tomorrow at 1.45pm<br />
in the school hall.<br />
Teacher Gina Keating has<br />
been busy holding auditions<br />
over the lastfew weeksand the<br />
finalwill feature comedians,<br />
musicians, singers,magicians<br />
and aRubik’s cube performer.<br />
‘‘It’s apretty intense process<br />
and I’m pleased I’m the MC<br />
and not having to makethe<br />
decisions,’’MrKelly says.<br />
