Artist Patricia Sweet finds inspiration here in the mountains of WNC

Following in the footsteps of the Hudson River
Artists, Patricia Sweet has painted throughout
New England. She has also enjoyed sinking
her toes as well as her easel in the sand up and
down the Florida coast.
She joined an arts cooperative in the White
Mountains of New Hampshire. This organization
was built around the teachings of Frank Vincent
DuMond (1845 - 1951), one of mid-twentieth-century
America’s most influential teachers
and painters. Utilizing this palette and some
of her personal “tweaks,” she creates depth,
distance, and subtle yet defining light effects to
recreate a moment in time; drawing the viewers
eyes into her paintings.
Spending much of her time painting en plein
air, she prefers to experience the beauty of her
subject first hand.
Sweet says, “It’s exciting when it takes some
effort to get to the subject. The seclusion gives
me the ability to digest my surroundings and
experience the landscape more intimately.” She
adds that her most wonderful days are when she
can pack a lunch, take a hike, drive her convertible
along the Parkway, and find a place to be still
and paint.
Now residing in North Carolina, she works in
both plein air and in the studio to capture the
beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
