London Rotary Student of the Month: Madison-Plains
Positive attitude
The London Rotary
Club is pleased to honor
senior Gavin Jones as
Madison-Plains High
School’s September Student
of the Month.
Students of the month
are selected by school administrators
based on
their academic and extracurricular
achievement
and positive character.
Jones has a 4.04 grade
point average. His favorite
course is College
Credit Plus Western Civilization.
Jones has been in
the marching and concert
Gavin Jones
band for four years, basketball for three
years, and student council for three years.
He was sergeant-of-arms for his junior
class and is vice president of the National
Honor Society.
When asked to name a school staff
member who inspires him, Jones named
social studies teacher Jason Hunt.
“He is truly passionate in his teaching,
and I hope to have that kind of passion for
my future career,” he said.
About Jones, Hunt said,
“Gavin is exceptionally
bright and puts forth great
effort on everything he
turns in. Beyond academics,
Gavin is truly one of
the kindest students I
have ever had in class. His
positive attitude is an example
for everyone. It has
been a true pleasure to
have had the opportunity
to teach Gavin the past
two years.”
After graduation, Jones
plans to attend a four-year
college, major in civil engineering
and minor in music. He is the son
of Rick and Samantha Jones.
The London Rotary Club has a proud

Adoptable pets
The following pets are up for adoption at
the Humane Society of Madison County,
2020 Plain City Georgesville Rd., West Jefferson.

Riley is 3 years old
and weighs about 45
pounds. She is neither
too big nor too small,
but just right. She is
easygoing, somewhat
independent and occasionally
enjoys a game
of fetch. She never
messes in her kennel and, when people walk
past, she greets them calmly like a nice
young lady. Riley would do best as an only
furbaby in the home. She is a favorite of volunteers
at the shelter because she walks so
nicely on a leash.
Madison is about 9 months old. She has
been at the shelter
since May 26 after
being fostered for
some time in a nice
family’s home. She is a
petite kitty that is an
absolute sweetheart.
When you walk into
the room, she is all meows and comes trotting
over to you looking for love. She follows
you wherever you go until she finally decides
to find a roost and hang out where she
can look out the window.
• Spaghetti Dinner. The Humane Society’s
2nd Annual Spaghetti Dinner is set for
4-7 p.m. Oct. 1-3 at Ann & Tony’s Restaurant,
211 E. Main St., West Jefferson. The
dinner is carryout only, $10. Tickets are on
sale at the Humane Society; hours are 1-5
p.m. Tuesday-Thursday; 1-7 p.m. Friday;
12-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday; closed Monday.
• Paws & Pals Dinner-Auction. This annual
event is Nov. 2 at Der Dutchman in
Plain City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Dinner
is at 6:30. Silent and live auctions, a 50/50
raffle, items for sale, and the Bonzi awards
are planned. The cost is $30 per person ($18
for children 10 years old and younger).
Reservations are due by Oct. 19.

senior Lucas Brenstuhl as
London High School’s
September Student of the
Month.
Students of the month
are selected by school administrators
based on
their academic and extracurricular
achievement
and positive character.
Brenstuhl has a 4.1
grade points average and
is ranked 19th in his
class. His favorite classes
are Spanish and anatomy.
He has run cross country
for four years, earning three varsity letters,
and was named as an MSL All-Academic
in 2016 and 2017. He is this year’s
team captain. In track, Brenstuhl has
earned two varsity letters. He also is a
member of the varsity cheerleading team,
Teen Leaders of London, student council,
National Honor Society and Fellowship of
Christian Athletes. Over the summer, he
traveled with his Spanish class to Costa
Rica.
When asked to name a school staff member
who inspires him, Brenstuhl named
Spanish teacher Janelle Wilson.
“Profe Wilson is an inspiration to me
because she cares for the well-being of her

students while also providing
amazing education
of the Spanish language,”
he said.
About Brenstuhl, Wilson
said, “Lucas is a hard
worker and goes above
and beyond in all he does.
I’ve known Lucas for the
past three years and have
had the pleasure to be his
Spanish teacher for two
years. He is outgoing,
helpful and always willing
to put himself out there
and try new things. He
was on the Costa Rica
class trip we took this
past summer and was an integral part of
how successful and fun the trip was. I look
forward to seeing Lucas be successful in
wherever his life takes him.”
After graduation, Brenstuhl plans to
go to college to study nursing and eventually
obtain an MSN to become a nurse
practitioner. He is the son of Rick and
Charity Brenstuhl of Grove City.
