County, wrote and was awarded over
a three-year period.
Goals if elected: I believe I have the resources,
energy and determination to help
the village of Mount Sterling heal from the
deep financial impact created by the previous
administrator from 2012 into 2016. Rebuilding
our community requires regaining
the respect and trust from both our citizens
and the leadership within our county and
state. I plan on working on new partnerships
and collaborations with our surrounding
communities and our own businesses in
Mount Sterling. With transparency and conversation,
we can begin the journey towards
the progress and revival of this community
that we love and call our home.
Through town forums and conversations
with our citizens and business leaders, I will
strive to better communicate the issues surrounding
high water bills, the efforts to fund
and sustain a grocery store in a small rural
community, as well as how a strong village
council works through legislation that effects
our village. I believe in the wisdom of
people, not just those who sit in the council
chairs or the mayor’s seat, but those ideas
brought by concerned citizens wanting to
better their community. If elected mayor, I
will have dedicated hours for those one-onone
conversations from citizens willing to
share their positive recommendations, as
well as their concerns. It will be my policy
to share with council the thoughts and concerns
of our citizens and to reinforce the belief
that one person’s well intended ideas
may not always be what is best for our community,
even if that person holds a political
seat in the village.
through businesses, new housing.
Expand opportunities at our parks. I’ve
been working diligently at getting a dog
park and a splash pad. Beautification and
cleaning up the community is high on my
and needs a lot of attention.
needed. A grocery is needed, and I want to
see this need fulfilled. More homes are
needed. Mount Sterling is growing, and I
• Jordan “Jay” Pettey
Occupation: Branch administration and
operations, Xerox
Education and/or military experience:
Bachelor’s degree in communications from
Indiana University
Community activities/honors: Volunteer
at Mount Sterling Church of the Nazarene
Goals if elected: My goal is to foster an
engagement between leadership and the
community. I want to bring back the trust
and pride in our great community that has
been lost in the last decade. On the issue of
the massive debt that is being carried by
Mount Sterling and its constituents (created
by Joe Johnson and his administration), we
need to find solutions to bring in new businesses
and revenue that will help support
the village…i.e. partnerships with venues
inside and outside of Mount Sterling. We
need to get that burden off the backs and
shoulders of the community members. Our
creativity in bringing in opportunities, new
events, and connecting families in Mount
Sterling is pivotal for the success of our village.
• David L. Timmons
church council, rock and roll historian.
Goals if elected: I would like to move forward
and see our village grow. There have
been some hard times, but I see a great future
for our village. Columbus gets closer
every day. We must prepare for growth that
will be coming. I hope to be ready for that
growth. Mount Sterling must be ready for
the future.
