TALENT: Corban Farnley in action on Lake Havasu in Arizona, United States. ‘My goal was to win one but it was pretty cool to win all three’ From page 1 Corban prevailed in the junior ski 13 to 15-year-old lites, the amateur classic ski and amateur ski lites class. He not only beat the best jet ski riders in his age-group, but adults as well. “My goal was to win one but it was pretty cool to win all three,” he said. “It was very rough conditions over there and I love racing in that so it really helped me. Often it was very windy but that suited me. We all do 10 laps and race each other at the same time. A lap can take up to 2min.” The jet skiers reach speeds of up to 50km/h, Corban has been racing since he was 10, but first got on a jet ski when he was five. His father Chris, was a national champion in 1995 and owns a jet ski shop. “At the start dad was my trainer and I just got on with it and gave it a go and really enjoyed it.” He enjoyed having a bunch of silverware to hold on the flight home. “It was pretty good. I had three big trophies that lots of people were asking me to carry on the plane,” he said. Corban will focus on the national championships in March at Cambridge. “There will be plenty of racing for me to do over the summer, but the nationals will be my major focus to get ready for.” •More sport, p34 Drop in to view our beautiful luxury apartments and discover the benefits of our boutique community.
