DIABETES AWARENESS & diabetes meaningful connections with those people affected by or at risk of diabetes. We want every person affected by, or at risk of diabetes in Canterbury to have access to the support needed to live a full and active life. Our campaign will focus on healthy eating, diabetes education and exercise as the key factors in the fight against diabetes and keeping well. Healthy eating, education and exercise: • Can help prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes • Is an important part of the effective management of all types of diabetes to help avoid complications • Healthy foods will help effectively manage all types of diabetes Many complications can be picked up in their early stages by screening programmes. The earlier a person is diagnosed, the earlier treatment can be initiated in order to reduce the risk of harmful and costly complications. A person can have type 2 diabetes for several years without showing any symptoms, during which time high blood glucose is silently damaging the body. There is therefore an urgent need to screen, diagnose and provide appropriate treatments and information to people with diabetes.
