With a grow<strong>in</strong>g popula on and shr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g habita on area,<br />

the way the homes were constructed have changed s<strong>in</strong>ce<br />

is developed as a self-susta<strong>in</strong>able unit, address<strong>in</strong>g the basic<br />

needs of people such as educa on, health care and<br />

shopp<strong>in</strong>g. It is a balanced mix of residen al and<br />

commercial spaces, along with the well-developed<br />

<strong>in</strong>frastructure of power, roads, water, dra<strong>in</strong>age and sewage.<br />

It is developed as a small <strong>to</strong>wn with<strong>in</strong> a city or <strong>in</strong> its<br />

outskirts with roadways <strong>to</strong> the ma<strong>in</strong>land. It is developed as<br />

a complex setup with clusters of liv<strong>in</strong>g spaces and open<br />

areas with an emphasis on a susta<strong>in</strong>able liv<strong>in</strong>g ecosystem.<br />

Why the Shi<br />

While there are many reasons for this paradigm shi <strong>in</strong> the<br />

way real estate is develop<strong>in</strong>g livable areas, challenges such<br />

as pollu on, convenience, open spaces, affordability and<br />

traffic <strong>to</strong>p the charts. Moreover, the ma<strong>in</strong>land areas or core<br />

areas of the ci es are already overcrowded and ver cal<br />

expansion of build<strong>in</strong>gs is limited. This calls for develop<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong> nature and yet are well connected <strong>to</strong> the ma<strong>in</strong><br />

city. <strong>The</strong> Government is also promo ng such developments<br />

<strong>to</strong> ease the grow<strong>in</strong>g pressure on the ci es due <strong>to</strong><br />

popula on. <strong>The</strong>se fac<strong>to</strong>rs have been boos ng the<br />

development of Integrated <strong>to</strong>wnships <strong>in</strong> Tier I and Tier-II<br />

ci es.<br />
