Exceptional Quality Management
Certification
AP Legal Chambers, Advocates &
Solicitors has become one of the
distinct law firms in India to become
ISO certified for Quality Management
Systems (9001:2015).
Anand reveals, “More than anything
else, we wanted to be self-assured and
at the same time convey a subtle
message to our clients, as well as
prospective clients, that we have a
robust management process and we at
APLC are more effective, improved and
have the ability to optimise based on
client’s requirements and priorities.”
As generally, ISO Certification is
obtained by Manufacturing
Companies; Anand and Aditya were
initially sceptical about the certification
and the due process involved in it as
they needed to customise the guiding
manuals applicable to a law firm’s
needs.
Their documentation, filing
procedures, online data maintenance
and communication processes were
standardised.
Anand adds, “Interestingly, in our
quest towards ISO certification, we
noticed that we were already in line
with all ISO processes using our inhouse
methodology and prudence.”
Partners were given special training,
which was later passed on to APLCs
associates and staff. Today Anand and
Aditya are certain that everyone in
their firm knows the process and the
flow of QMS.
Anand states, “As ISO certification was
completed, we saw that this arduous
journey was justified.”
AP Legal Chambers,
Advocates & Solicitors
(APLC) has become one
of the distinct law firms
in India to become ISO
certified for Quality
Management Systems
(9001:2015).
The League of Justice
AP Legal Chambers was founded in
2017 by two like-minded firstgeneration
advocates determined to
make a meaningful impact on the
profession and society.
At the same time, Anand and Aditya
wanted to compete with the best legal
minds and provide a platform for
young and upcoming lawyers and law
students to develop their legal
knowledge and hone their court crafts.
According to Aditya, the decision was
quite simple: ‘get onto the ground and
play.’ He shares, “We did not wait for
the opportunities; we created them
ourselves.”
Initially, they found it challenging to
find a suitable office space with their
limited purse in Delhi-NCR. But they
had the determination to play long
innings, so they started slowly but
steadily in a small office, and by the
end of six months, they moved to a
much bigger and prominent place.
Aditya continues, “Now we are
providing opportunities to young
independent lawyers to access our
well-furnished and equipped office
space without charging them anything.
Our firm has completed five years in
the legal industry. One legacy that we
are proud of mentioning here is that we
are helping and nurturing other young
lawyers who are yet to find their feet in
the market by providing them with
proper infrastructure. Because of this,
we have been creating many marketready
talented advocates.”
Precisely for this, APLC
commands trust and respect in the
legal sector.
Advocates Encountering
Adversities
Anand and Aditya had a few
clients at the beginning, typical of
all first-generation lawyers; they
also faced the problem of getting
new clients into the firm. Time went
by in a jiffy: it took them about a year
to just get hold of the ground reality.
Many well-wishers advised them to
close their firm and join a big law firm
or get into the corporate sector.
“Sometimes it is a blessing in disguise
to not have a plan B,” says Anand;-
“We did not have any Plan-B; we
channelised our entire focus to develop
this firm’s clientele and create an

image in the minds of our clients and
fellow advocates and five years down
the lane we are here. Now we spend
every other minute maintaining the
reputation in the market that we are in
today.”
Similarly, COVID and subsequent
lockdown were significant challenges;
they had started to cater to a diverse
section of clients and did everything
they could to continue providing their
services uninterruptedly, even during
the lockdowns. Anand recollects, “We
were on our toes during those times.”
Presently, he says, rather than a
challenge, they have a responsibility to
emulate the already high benchmark
set by their team. Anand smiles, “We
are happily holding the mantle with
utmost devotion to our profession.
Expansion is round the corner, and we
are serious with our business and
stakeholders; every move we take now
will impact our firm’s brand in the next
half a century.”
On a Mission to Uphold the Law
Aditya adds, “We are appreciated
for our ethical practices,
transparency, research skills and wellmaintained
information security
systems, which give the clients the
confidence to share documents and
files online securely and safely.”
He says with assurance, “Once we give
our commitment, we are 100% into it.
We are result-oriented, and the Value
Systems are imbibed in the DNA of
APLC. We as a team always place the
client at the forefront and cater for
their needs with utmost honesty,
integrity and accountability.”
Every individual of the firm knows
their responsibilities towards the
clients and towards the firm. Aditya
reaffirms, “We always back our team,
and these are the set of guiding
principles and fundamental beliefs that
help our team to focus on our common
professional goals.”
Gradually, APLC is
planning to be present
in each and every tier-II
and tier-III cities in
the coming years to
serve more people and
help aid them to
get justice for all.
About the various specialised legal
offerings, solutions, and services of
APLC, Aditya shares, “We are
providing specialised services in the
areas of domestic and international
Taxation, Constitutional Laws, IPR,
ADR, Property Laws, Energy Laws,
Mergers and Acquisitions, Commercial
Advisory and Corporate Compliance.”
APLC is having dedicated tax
compliance and advisory team
focusing primarily on start-ups. Clients
come to APLC to get specialised
services in foreign investment and
foreign contribution regulatory
compliance. The firm also provides
pro-bono services to deserving and
underprivileged people.
The Admirable Legal Strategists
APLC is a process-driven organisation.
It has leveraged the ISO inputs it
received and developed its quality
standards which are fundamentally
strong and have helped it gain a
competitive edge over its peers. Aditya
states, “We as a firm concentrate on the
means to achieve the ends which are
more important than the end itself by
following our streamlined processes
which have given us guaranteed
results.”
Today, APLC can handle on par both
high profile and low-key cases
seamlessly into its systems. The team
APLC engages in brainstorming
sessions related to various cases, which
help it understand each other’s
perspectives and arrive at a consensus
that would form the basis of its legal
strategy.
Anand shares, “During team meetings,
everyone is allowed to express their
opinions, and this open structure helps
us understand our weaknesses and
identify our strengths.”
Another essential aspect that Anand
and Aditya emphasise in their firm is
the work-Life balance. Even though
they consider their team a single large
family, spending quality time with
one’s family is equally important. They
provide a proactive role in the holistic
growth of their associates and juniors.
They keep their team empowered by
engaging them in team-building
activities and conducting mock trials.
Aditya adds, “Along with our coaching
and mentoring programs, we also
allow them to go for post-qualification
courses or workshops, seminars etc., to
groom themselves to become
independent lawyers.”
Preparing a Knowledge Sharing
Society
COVID-19 outburst and the ensued
Lockdown were unprecedented and
unheard of. Who might have imagined
the Apex Court of India would be shut
down briefly and go virtual? All the
people in the legal sector suffered and
did not know how this would shape up
in the future. The practising lawyers
had apprehensions, and law students
became anxious.
To combat the situation, team APLC
organised webinars during the
lockdown, which were runaway hits.
Anand sheds some light on it, “I
constantly feel that there is always
light at the end of the tunnel. Whatever
the situation, we can always see the
good side of it. Even if we are conned
to our homes, knowledge sharing need
not stop.”
Thus, the team APLC invited eminent
speakers from various disciplines,
including Law, Politics, Medicine,
History and Literature and gave them
the floor to express their views, ideas
and insights.
APLC wanted to leverage their rich
experience and insight and hence
presented each and every webinar in a
unique way. It had the early beginners’
advantage in the legal industry. Anand
says, “Our topics and way of
conducting the webinar became an
instant hit, and many others followed
suit. Today, we feel we have created a
part of history by recording these
webinars and the experiences of
resource persons on YouTube.”
This can be utilised by people in
general and law students or lawyers in
particular who seek to get knowledge.

The Law-Tech-Equalizers
Regarding the impact of technological
advancements in the Law space, Aditya
thinks that technology is a great
leveller. A young and upcoming
advocate from a Tier III city also gets
to access the same contents that a
senior advocate of the Supreme Court
can access. Searching Case Laws,
Cause Lists, getting judgment copies or
referring to voluminous books is now
just at a click of a mouse button.
It saves the precious time of the
litigants. It has enabled advocates to
cater to clients in remotest locations
effortlessly using technology without
the need for the client to be present
physically.
Aditya expresses, “I personally feel
that technology also comes with
downsides; as much as information
spreads, misinformation also spreads
faster.”
Many misconceptions and rumours
have cropped up with the availability
of open-source editable information.
The Law fraternity has a responsibility
to educate common people on what is
right and what is not.
Defining Legal Wisdom
Anand’s advice to aspiring legal
enthusiasts who are willing to step into
the legal space today is definitive. He
says that an aspiring legal enthusiast
should persevere for long term success.
Big billings are essential but not at the
cost of losing your old clients. Be
patient because success comes to those
who wait.
Anand shares, “In our profession,
reputation is valued over instant
success. Use technology as a tool
and not as a substitute for
knowledge. Your fundamentals
need to be strong, and technology
cannot replace them.”
A lot of practices in this
profession have been in vogue
since time immemorial and have
stood the test of time, so be
pragmatic and at the same time be
ready to embrace changes in this fastmoving
world. Always see the bigger
picture. Possess the ability to have a
hawk-eye view of what is happening in
and around you and use them to your
advantage.
“I feel one should not think out of the
box; one needs to think as if there is no
box,” says Anand.
Justice for All
When asked how he envisions APLCs
operation eventually concerning the
current scenario of the Legal Space,
Anand thinks that eventually is a very
abstract word.
He says, “We envision creating a
reputation in the legal industry by
serving with superior efficiency and
creating a passionate team of lawyers
with shared values for greater
standards of services to our clients.”
He adds, “As our commitment to
giving back to the society, we are
conceiving an idea of setting up a
dedicated wing of APLC for providing
top-quality free legal services to
people irrespective of the rural and
urban population.”
Anand concludes, “Gradually, we are
planning to be present in each and
every tier-II and tier-III cities in the
coming years.
The tremendous
growth potential in
these emerging markets
gives us an opportunity
to serve more people
and help in aiding
them to get
justice for all.

Legal
Industry
he collective human psyche might be operating according to
Tsome strange laws. As it resists the change, which is constant
and inevitable, to the last possible moment. A moment, post
which, the piled-up avalanche of changes bursts the dam open.
That moment was the year 2020. And the change was overnight
digital embracing by the Indian judiciary in the form of online and
virtual hearings. Although, the Indian judiciary's technological
transformation has been in the making for the last five decades. What
was once a closed-loop group has now grown up into a global
enterprise pegged at $1011 by the end of 2021.
Legal Tech Transformation
The transformation was imperative. It happened when the legal
sector began changing the way it operates. As computers entered
every industry, topmost law firms in those times began storing their
legal cases, data, records, and information on these digital machines.
Quickly came the internet making communication faster.
Further technologies, gadgets, devices, hardware, and software
became the daily used assistance by lawyers, attorneys, and legal
professionals. They used it to ease their arduous tasks and offer
competent legal access to their justice-seeking clients.

Embracing Advancements
Transparent Law and Accessible Justice
IT and software solutions developing companies took the
advantage of the increasing demand and began providing
legal firms and individual professionals with everadvancing
legal technological or Legal Tech solutions. The
terminology and the solutions became a new popular trend
among legal enthusiasts.
This legal dependence on technology kept deepening as it
enhanced the legal system's efficiency, legal professionals'
productivity, and firm's transparency for clients. The day-today
legal proceedings could be tracked, traced, and
monitored both by the firm and by the client using this legal
tech.
Here are further proofs of how legal tech is reshaping the
legal sector's functioning:
Legal Automation: Manual in-house legal working was the
tradition before the tech revolution. Although the primary
tasks of the lawyers and attorneys were to constant
interaction with clients, colleagues, and other industry
professionals, two third of their time got wasted performing
repetitive, fact searching and verifying tasks through the
labyrinth of piled paperwork.
Now imagine the current scenario. Where legal tech
software like simple word processors to hi-tech software
like eDiscovery, are not only increasingly doing these tasks,
but also quickening the functional pace, enhancing
professional productivity, and offering enough time to legal
professionals to focus on their most significant tasks.
Client-Attorney Communications Streamlined: According
to the Law Firm Flexibility Benchmarking Survey, 2017,
64.7% or nearly two third of the law firms allow their
lawyers and attorneys to telecommute.
Using such unified communicational platforms allows legal
professionals to work from anywhere and anytime while
constantly interacting with clients through diversified
channels. This not only increases their personal efficiency
but also streamlines client-lawyer/attorney
communications.
Constant Research Ensured: Legal professionals' constant
demand for research is now getting fulfilled with advanced
technologies like Machine Learning, Big Data Analysis,
Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, cloud computing, and
the Internet of Things.
The new devices like smartphones, laptops, tablets, PDAs,
Kindle readers, etc. are reducing lawyers' dependence on
printed papers. Research also contains cross-verifications,
reviews, and updating which were all time-consuming
earlier.
However, now with the help of all the new gadgets and
legal tech, legal professionals can do better research with
increased precision and learn everything timely. In short
continuous research is duly ensured by the revolutionary
legal tech.
Digital Legal Case Management: Now legal professionals
are increasingly utilizing digital business management
platforms to manage their legal cases. In old days lawyers
could be seen struggling with their case management
aspects like records, data, info, and documents
management, clients, and contact organization, scheduling
meetings and keeping track of their assignment calendars,
and billings.
However, with all the new technologies and smart devices
available they are finding it easy to manage all of their
cases, as the novel legal techs like a digital hub and cloud
computing allow them remote access and real-time
tracking, tracing, and monitoring of their cases.
It further allows them to keep their client's in a constant
loop increasing client-lawyer engagement, trust, and
reliability. Many of the case management platforms and
systems are web-based, giving an all-time in-sync feeling to
all its users.
Online and Virtual Hearings: As mentioned earlier this is
the new way judiciary including lower, middle, and in some
emergency cases even higher courts are now functioning in
online or virtual mode. This was to keep up the justice
system deliverance going in the wake of the COVID-19
pandemic, which has though now waning but still is
ongoing.
However, since the judiciary and the legal industry have
found tremendous comfort and ease in conducting hearings
and trials online or virtually, it could be continued in the
future in normal circumstances also.

India's Most Admired Law Firms-2022
Joachim & Janson
ntellectual Property Right (IPR) Law is concerned with
Ione of the most significant intangible assets we humans
possess: our intelligence. Human intelligence, with its
virtually intangible operating system of mind, is the
metaverse of our tangible brain. It is the strangest
evolutionary phenomenon, which is the best gift as living
organisms, we have received.
On the one hand, intelligence’s intangibility is its core
strength, as it is through the sheer brilliance of our everadvancing
mental capabilities that we are riding on the
waves of magnificent progress as a species we have
achieved.
By using intelligence’s repertoire of art, craft, critical and
logical thinking, deep-rooted beliefs, experience, ideas,
imagination, knowledge, perception, positive outlook,
reasoning, and aptitude, we have formed civilizations
thriving through industrializations, globalization,
digitalization, and scientific and technological
advancements into a logically magical future of glorious
hopes, wishful thinking, exciting optimism, constant
anticipation, and surreal reality of fanciful fantasy.
We have reached the moon, even our robots have been
exploring mars, and we have discovered unimaginable
secrets of our universe and formed logical, provable and
believable theories of its inception and expansion.
Coming back to the home, it is based on our intelligence’s
accomplishment that we are living in a naturally wonderful
and technologically interconnected world full of humanmade
wonders and comforts.
On the other hand, day by day, our greatest gift is turning
out to be our biggest vulnerable asset, as our intellectual
property is under constant threat of being stolen, hijacked,
hacked, or plagiarised by mediocre opportunists. Thus,
scientists, researchers, technocrats, innovators, discoverers,
artists, creators, and creative professionals are constantly
worried over protecting their IPR by using the legal
framework established for its safeguard. However, as an
individual or even professional entrepreneurs and business
entities, people find it difficult, sometimes almost
impossible, to understand the intricacies of this IPR Law.
Grasping the severity of the situation two decades ago, and
protecting the IPR since then, today, Joachim & Janson,
the Leading Law Firm with a global perspective and
universal reach and reputation, is providing services as
Patent Agents, Patent, Trademark and Copyright Attorneys.
Established in 2002 by Anup Joachim T., Advocate,

Leading ‘Joachim & Janson’ at the forefront is Mr Anup

Consultant of the firm.
Talking about his experience, Anup says, “From a very
young age, I have strongly believed in justice, and that

Embracing the Change, Breaking the Challenges
Speaking about the challenges he faced while entering the
legal space, Anup reveals, “When I entered into the legal
space of Intellectual Property, we had no mentors as such.
Intellectual Property Rights Law was fairly a novel concept,
and there were no experts to take guidance from.”
There was a general lack of awareness and clarity among
the public about Intellectual property rights. The main
challenge was to make people understand the value of their
intangible assets, how important it is to protect them and
how they can monetize them. Moreover, the technology
available back then was not as advanced as it is today.
“Everything had to be submitted by hand. There was an
inherent need for perfection to provide the best possible
service to the clients, and we have successfully achieved the
same. It has been a journey of 20 years with constant hard
work and the creation of awareness to amass the sizeable
clientele my firm has today,” adds Anup.
Now that all the IP services can be dealt with online, the
new challenges emerge from the rapid change in technology
and adapting to the same to continue providing the best
quality services.
About the various specialized legal offerings, solutions, or
services his law firm provides to the clientele, Anup shares,
“We provide around 40 plus trademark services, including
registration, litigation, Sale or License. We also provide
equivalent services in Patent, Design Patent, Copyright and
Trade secrets, specialized Intellectual Property advisory
services and legal drafting services.”
An Admired Law Firm
‘Joachim & Janson’ is strongly supported by an expert team
of highly qualified attorneys with considerable hands-on
experience handling different IP matters with an over 90%
success rate. Anup conveys, “Our team is well-equipped to
handle the IP Portfolios ranging from Startups to Fortune
500 Companies. Our client-centric ideology keeps us on our
toes, ever-ready with prompt services of the highest
standards, tailored to the client’s requirements.”
According to Anup, the impact of technological
advancements in the Law Space is substantial. He says that,
without a doubt that technological advancements have had a
significant impact on the legal industry.
Technology is the biggest player in solving the real
problems in the world right now; particularly during the
COVID-19 pandemic, online hearings and virtual courts
have proven to be invaluable.
Artificial Intelligence is being used generously in due
diligence, prediction of legal outcomes, legal analytics,
auto-documentation and Intellectual Property. Its accuracy,
simplicity, and value have swayed more of us legal experts
in its favour, creating a general belief that combining
technology and law would see great development in coming
years.
Wisdom of Curiosity and Learning
Anup shares his decades-old wisdom with aspiring legal
enthusiasts willing to step into the legal space today. He
expresses, “The best advice I can give to the aspiring legal
enthusiasts is never to stop being curious.”
Curiosity encourages learning, and the legal profession is
one of a kind, where the learning never stops. Also, be
compassionate and humble. Help as many people as
possible, regardless of their stature. Success will definitely
come to you.
Strategic Influx of the Dynamic Future
When asked how he envisions Joachim & Janson’s
operation eventually concerning the current scenario of the
Legal Space, Anup feels that ‘All is flux, nothing is
stationary’ is the motto of the hour. Change is inevitable.
Globalization, technological advances, demographic shifts,
mergers, politics; even a tweet can impact the future. There
is an innate need to explore the know-how of maintaining a
productive and profitable enterprise. There is a need for
strategy.
Anup details, “At ‘Joachim & Janson,’ our main vision is to
provide value and quality services to as many individuals
and businesses as possible. Over the years, we have
successfully established a strong identity and presence in
the legal industry. Still, we cannot expect old working
methodologies to be fit for purpose in today’s
environment.”
Finally concluding on a promising note, Anup says, “Our
firm is well-equipped with experienced personnel and
advanced technology to quickly diversify and adapt to the
ever-so dynamic world to stay ahead in the legal industry
for the long run.”

New Age
Transformational
Drive Changing
the Face of Modern
Law Firms
he legal industry worked on physical aspects of evidence,
Tproofs, witnesses, and the precise application-oriented
linking of the laws which had been working on heavy
paperwork, efforts, and meetings. In a recent couple of decades,
numerous developments and applications of modern technologies
have transformed the functioning to a smarter, faster, and easier way.
Like the other industries, the legal industry has also progressed
significantly through its systematic, organized, well-appointed, and
streamlined working pattern. It has made the court proceedings
focused, by supporting the individual key result areas with the
accuracy, speed, and efficiency of the automation system. The
important areas of influence are identified and elaborated further on.
Digitization of Documents
Technology made its first impact through the process of digitization
of the case files and legal documents. The district courts, high courts,
and the supreme court decisions which were earlier filed in physical
hardbound documents were cumbersome to refer to and preserve
with high efforts.
Digitization converted the entire court proceedings into secure soft
copies documented and available for various legal professionals to

Novel Perspective
access and study the same. The physical libraries of the law
firms are steadily getting replaced by data centers and cloud
servers.
It has helped the entire legal fraternity to work
independently on accessing the earlier case studies and
work remotely saving valuable time, cost, and energy.
Data Analytics and automation
The advanced application of Artificial Intelligence and
machine learning in research tasks have increased
efficiency, and accuracy and reduced human efforts and
cost. The recent application of AI in IBM Watson is
designed to read and understand language, postulate
hypotheses, contribute to research and generate responses
along with references and citations. These have set the
process of transformation in a steady rhythm which will
pick up the pace soon.
Remote Counselling
Remote communication through phone calls, WhatsApp
calls, and numerous conference platforms like zoom, teams,
google meet skype, and more have enabled lawyers in
contacting and communicating with their clients, prospects,
regional legal departments, and police officials easily and
seamlessly. Remote communication has also boosted the
data transfer of heavy documents and evidence in secure
and faster, and cost-effective processing.
Diligence and E-discovery
Due diligence and discovery exercises are where AI and
automation play an important role in streamlining processes
and increasing the efficacy of the exercise. Considering the
matters of litigation where the lawyers had to spend a
considerable amount of time in pursuit of a variety of
documents in identification and gathering relevant
evidence, the AI function helps in such matters. E-discovery
services help in identifying the important documents
quickly, through relevant words and phrases in compiling
the relevant threads of evidence that can be useful for the
case.
Case Preparation and management
The basic task of case preparation in matters of litigation
has benefited from AI applications. The modern legal
analytics AI platform known as Lex Machina, uses natural
language processing, machine learning, and technologyassisted
human review to deliver case resolutions, solutions,
research analysis, accurate counsel, and party data. The
system presents the resulting data in a clear and easily
understood relevance to the legal matter. The new lawyers
are greatly benefited by the modern system which helps to
bridge the gap of knowledge and experience between the
experienced seasoned lawyers.
Client Interface and collaborative working
The new technology is the key differentiator that enables
the lawyers to meet the changing demands of the clients and
case matters. Lawyers have been available for consultation
through remote working and online meetings thereby
reaching the client's expectations. Lawyers maintained their
work efficiency and schedules through the modern
technologies of video conferencing, collaborative working
tools, secure document signing, cloud services, and many
more. This hybrid model of working ensured timely
progress in the work.
Impact on Judicial Institutions
Modern technology has highly impacted the functioning of
legal institutions. The COVID-19 pandemic changed the
court proceeding to the online mode. Filings, hearings, and
all aspects of case proceedings are now systematically
digitized. Though online e-filing and case management had
begun already, it had just become extensive. The courts got
better control with the people getting easy access to the
procedures, making the legal process more efficient, faster,
and systematic.
Influencing other Legal Aspects
Data generation, management, compiling, and processing
became the core factors of the legal system. However, the
challenges in data security led to the application of
blockchain technology which has given a better command
over the data centers by allowing limited and controlled
access to the users. Blockchain applications through the
tools of smart contracts that are self-operating computer
programs helping the users in drafting agreements and
generating customized agreements according to the
feedback from the clients and lawyers.
Delivering Justice Towards a Secure Society
The contribution of the technologies in the legal system has
made the entire process easier, feasible, controlled, and
cost-effective. The time-consuming factors of
documentation, effort duplication, and travel got replaced
totally by the new age systems. These technologies have
boosted the progress of the law functions from the courts to
legal consulting firms and clients towards clean,
transparent, smart, efficient, and fast work proceedings.

The Perfect Corporate
Counsellors
hile dealing with different entities exclusively in
Wprofessional life, it is mandatory to fulfil legal
requirements. Many times, issues like
disagreement or disputes crop up during mutual dealings.
And sometimes, these issues reach a level where legal
counsel is a must.
Therein arises the need for expert legal counsel who can
guide a business entity in all of its legal obligations
throughout and always. That is why the demand for an
expert law firm is constantly growing. The clients for such
law firms involve professionals, banks, national and
multinational companies etc.
By informing the clients about the exact position of law,
their rights, duties, violations, and legal recourse, a law firm
offers all kinds of legal solutions whenever and wherever
necessary. With its team of expert legal professionals in all
the areas of law, one law firm which is working diligently
for the client's cause is King Stubb & Kasiva.
Under the exemplary leadership of Jidesh Kumar, the
Managing Partner, today, King Stubb & Kasiva (KSK)
has emerged as the perfect legal counsellor for every
business entity.
Jidesh is a visionary for KSK, who, in 2005, along with his
classmate Mr Rajesh Sivaswamy took a leap of faith in
themselves and started it. The early 21st century had little
meant of exposure, and lesser scope of networking,
especially for first-generation lawyers; however, none of it
deterred them from embarking upon their respective legal
careers together.
Jidesh holds a B.A. LL. B (2002) from University Law
College, Bengaluru, and an M.B.L from National Law
School of India University, Bengaluru. His practice focused
on Intellectual Property Laws initially, which later
transitioned into General Corporate and Commercial
practice.
At this point, his practice also includes litigation strategy,
arbitration, and corporate laws, along with managing the
operations of King Stubb & Kasiva (KSK) PAN-India.
Jidesh is enrolled with the Karnataka Bar Council and is a
member of the Karnataka High Court Bar Association,
International Bar Association, and Supreme Court Bar
Association.
Jidesh is also a corporate attorney with an experience of
over 18 years. His major focus areas are mergers and
acquisitions, foreign direct investment, intellectual property,
contract drafting, review and negotiation, information
technology, outsourcing, BPO laws, regulatory, aviation,
and entry strategies.
In an interview with Insights Success for its edition of
India's Most Admired Law Firms-2022, Jidesh talked about
his journey at KSK, inspirations, services, challenges, and
legal offerings.
Please describe KSK in detail.
King Stubb & Kasiva (KSK) is a multi-service corporate
law firm with offices in eight cities in India, namely –
Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kochi,
Chennai, and Pune. The firm was started in 2005, with its
first office in New Delhi opened by Rajesh Sivaswamy

employment and labour, banking and finance, IT,
e-commerce, and emerging technology practices. Our
clients include large and medium Indian and foreign
businesses, multinational corporations, and Fortune 500
companies. The firm advises ministries, government
authorities, and public sector undertakings.
KSK has also forged close ties with foreign law firms. This
has been especially useful since we now act for several
Indian majors across the globe, whether it is in terms of
cross-border M&A or setting up a presence to undertake
business.
What inspired you to venture into the legal space?
I hail from a modest middle-class background, where 'Law'
was a known word and profession, but no one ventured into
it previously in my family. After I completed my 12th, I
qualified for Engineering and Medical, and it was around
the time I was deciding what to choose that a third option
knocked on my door. I heard about an admission opening at
ULC, and my mind went right into it.
The next thing I knew, I gave up on my engineering and
medical seats and decided to go with Law instead. The
choice was simple after it, as I was curious to know and
read more about the laws and become a lawyer. It happened
pretty suddenly. However, this has to be one of the best
decisions I took, as that is where I met my best friend and a
confidant, who is now also my co-Partner in the firm.
In law school, I was an active mooter; I took part in various
model parliaments and was studious academically.
Whenever I read or came across something new in the legal
space, I would find myself even more immersed in the
profession.
What drove me deeper into it was when I shifted my base to
Delhi from Bengaluru in the initial days of my career. I had
the privilege of working and being trained under stalwarts
like Amitabh Sen, Rohit Kocchar, Tarvinder Singh, Manju
Chawla, and Partha Mukherjee, among others. This helped
me build myself, create my space, and practice in the legal
space.
What challenges have you faced while entering the legal
space, and what are the challenges now?
For a Lawyer, a network is his net worth! In 2005, even
though the internet had marked an entry into our lives, its
accessibility was still scanty. Hence ruling out the
possibility of networking with legal professionals and
professionals from other domains. Whatever was available
was right in front of us, offline, at offices and organizations.
Back then, one major challenge was to build a network and
have connections, and that too, as a first-generation lawyer.
Exposure was lesser and limited, and this certainly did pose
a challenge for someone who wanted to contribute to the
legal ecosystem through his law firm.
Challenges, I believe, are integral to growth, and I was no
different. While networking and making connections
remained challenging for a long time, another challenge
was to flair and create a space for me in a new place and
learn new things from scratch because we certainly did not
have YouTube or Google to know how things functioned.
Many things had to be done manually, even updating my
knowledge bank via trusted books, journals, and reports that
recurred every month or quarterly with
updates/amendments/new judgments. Building a book of
records at the onset of my career got a little challenging too,
but then again, the absence of many things prepared us to
get stronger in the profession.
While we lacked the technology to help us navigate the
profession back then, the present generation can do so
easily. It is a blessing for them and us, too, now that we
have it a little easier on the technological front.
In the early 2000s, even though Law as a profession was a
choice for many, there was not so much of an influx in the
number of law graduates as it is now. The competition that
is there today can be a challenge for law enthusiasts.

What specialities make you stand out as an admired law
firm in the legal industry?
First and foremost, I believe that our work culture is our
USP. We acknowledge the importance of a work-life
balance. As a Law Firm with bouts of work coming our way
every hour, it puts a lot of pressure to cater to deliverables
on time, sometimes at the last moment, but we ensure that
our lawyers have a balance in terms of the work they do on
behalf of the firm.
Our work policies are liberal; we promote diversity, gender
equality, and entrepreneurship spirit within the law firm,
which certainly makes us stand out as a Corporate Law
Firm here in the legal industry.
As a law firm, we have an equal emphasis on client
deliverables and our lawyers' mental health and understand
how we can achieve our professional goals without lawyers
experiencing a wear-out. We are also perhaps the only law
firm in India with eight offices and have a full-fledged team
at every location we are present.
Over the years, we have established long-term relationships
with companies, even start-ups during their inception,
which have now become unicorns. There are many
parameters best known to our clients who have retained us
for this long, but I can vouch and claim that KSK has been
one of the admired law firms over the years.
What is the impact of technological advancements in the
Law space?
In 2002, if someone had told me we would have virtual
courts 20 years down the line, I would have laughed it off!
The same would be the case with platforms that give us
easy and super quick judgments, straight from the court,
because accessing judgments in seconds was certainly a
dream back then. The impact of technological
advancements is so huge at the moment that, deep down, I
am a little envious of how easy things have become right
now.
Technology has transitioned the way the legal space used to
function. Maintaining a diary with future dates of cases and
then making sure the dates were followed up has now
become easier with an online Calendar. Virtual, online
meetings have replaced phone calls and offline meetings.
CRMs have made it easier for law firms to have a record of
everything right from their clientele to the point of contact,
prospect, and follow-up. Technology has evolved so much
that it has seeped deep into the legal space, giving rise to
Legal Tech ventures. We are at a point where we require
technology everywhere, and that itself speaks of the impact
in the legal space.
What would you like to advise the aspiring legal
enthusiasts who are willing to step into the legal space
today?
Legal Enthusiasts today live in the best possible time where
there's technology, exposure, so many options to choose
from, limitless networking opportunities, and excellent
opportunities readily available, just a click away. This is
how privileged today's generation is, and my advice to each
one of them is to explore and see what fits the best.
Please keep an open mind to things, don't close your
options without dwelling deep into its technicalities. Be
more fearless in experimenting with allied professions that
go with Law like Business Development, Content
Strategizing, Legal Recruitment, Legal Management, etc.
These, too, have gained importance in the legal space over
time.
It's monumental for enthusiasts to pick a niche in the long
run since there is a lot of competition these days, and this is
only set to increase each passing day. Pick up books, read
journals, reports, and judgments, take certificate courses,
intern, moot, debate, and keep yourself informed because
the competition is only getting fiercer. Today is the time to
learn, and the world is anyone's oyster if they're headstrong
about what they want to do.
How do you envision your company's operation
eventually concerning the current scenario of the Legal
Space?
We at KSK regularly update ourselves with the everchanging
technology that takes place from time to time. As
for our company's operations, we have been expanding to
keep up with the wants of the changing times. With an
increase in clientele, we've onboarded more members to the
team and have our network of lawyers spread over
numerous jurisdictions in India alone. This has helped us
cater to client deliverables and execute the same seamlessly.
I have a vision for KSK. And that is to build King Stubb &
Kasiva as a law firm with the best legal minds in India,
provide the best legal solutions to corporates, and become
one of the most preferred law firms to work at!
